Today we honor Rusty. In 1944, Rusty Dow became the first woman to drive the entire length of the Alaska Highway. At 50 years of age, she braved the treacherous 1,560-mile journey in a fully loaded truck -- a feat completed in only seven days.

Today we honor Lillie. In 1929, Lillian McGee Drennan became the first woman in the United States to own a trucking firm. A fierce advocate against gender and disability bias in the industry, Lillie built a thriving regional shipping business.

Today we honor Luella Bates. Luella broke barriers in 1918, becoming the first licensed woman truck driver. Touring nationwide, she showcased her driving and mechanic skills at fairs, hauled heavy loads like coal, and even defied authorities to deliver crucial supplies.

Today we honor Stagecoach Mary. In 1895, Mary "Stagecoach" Fields became the first African-American woman to work for the U.S. Postal Service. Born enslaved, she became a Star Route Carrier at 60 years of age. Armed, fearless, and riding with six horses and a mule, she paved the way for more women in transportation.
