Members and family of SCV Camp 1865 assisted in placing flags at the graves of our American Veterans at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell this morning in observance of Memorial Day. We are truly awestruck and humbled to be here, and to be able to express, even in such a small way, how much we appreciate the sacrifices of so many. God Bless America!

SCV Camp 1865's 1st Lt. Commander Walt Cook recently created a custom painted cooler. This cooler has a custom painted base of the Confederate Battle Flag covered by grey, with a worn look to dramatically show the flag underneath. The SCV 1896 logo is on the front side and an Officer's uniform insignia on the back. The cooler has the iconic CSA emblazoned on the top of the lid. This is one of a kind custom piece that looks great. Show off your Confederate Heritage at your next tailgate event or BBQ.

All proceeds from the sale of this cooler will go towards the Camp's Burleson Family Cemetery Rehabilitation Project. This newly discovered cemetery is located in Citra, Marion County, Florida. The cemetery contains the graves of three members of Company E, 2nd Florida Infantry Regiment, "The Hammock Guards," which mustered into the service of the Confederate States in July 1861. This cemetery sits on private land which is densely overgrown, surrounded by a neighborhood that has used the land for parking and as a thoroughfare. The land owner has given the Col. Samuel St. George Rogers SCV Camp #1865 exclusive rights to rehabilitate, survey, clen up, and protect the cemetery. We estimate that building a suitable fence around the cemetery will cost us approximately $3000. The money raised in this cooler raffle will go towards this project.

Check out the video below of the cooler!

This cooler will be raffled off at our October 24, 2023 regular business meeting held in Ocala, Florida. Winner does not need to be present to win. Delivery of the cooler will be free within the State of Florida. Outside the state, the purchaser will be responsible for shipping charges.

Tickets are $5 each, or (3) tickets for $10. Go to scvcamp1865.com and click on the SCV Cooler Raffle tab to download the Ticket Purchase Form.

Saturday, February 25, 2023, members of the Col. Samuel St. George Rogers SCV Camp #1865 met at Burleson Family Cemetery in Citra, Florida to remove overgrown vegetation and clean headstones. The cemetery was unkempt to the point that most of the neighbors did not even know it was there.

Armed with w**d eaters, rakes, hedge clippers, and chain saws, Camp 1865 discovered the headstone of Daniel Conyers, Co. B, 9th Florida Infantry, C.S.A., that had been completely covered. Now his service will also be remembered as well as the other 5 Confederate Veterans known to be buried in this cemetery.

Residents from the area stopped by to see what all the clean up was about. One neighbor asked Commander Bob Highbaugh, "Why are you guys doing this?" The answer was simple, "If not us, then who? And if not now, then when?" All the residents were appreciative of the efforts and the mission of the SCV.

We will be returning to this cemetery to continue the brush clearing, the clean up, and to repair the headstones.
