Muscle Monday's are back! I have taken a VERY long interim from posting on this account. I will admit, I struggled with burnout with my posting schedule at the end of last year. I took a much-needed break but I am back! Always remember, everyone faces burnout at some point in their life. It is OKAY to do what you need to do to help yourself. You can't help others without maintaining yourself first!

With that being said, we are starting over with the Triceps Brachii! You may notice your horse pick up their leg or move away when palpating this area. They may also be experiencing a shortened stride in the front leg or difficulty extending their elbow.

Stretching the front legs (extending them forward) after a good warm-up can help alleviate some of this tension. But always consult your therapist before attempting any stretches that you have not tried before.

Come see our WAG dogs and so much more at the 1st Annual EPIC Dog Days Event!! It's a 3-day event that will have SOOOO much to do! My WHY.

I like to repost my why every so often as I feel it is important as a business owner to revisit this. Sometimes we can stray away and forget about our original why of starting our businesses. While growth is great, we must still remember the original purpose of starting our businesses.

A look into the difference between Intrinsic muscles and Extrinsic muscles!

Today we are talking about the Thoracic Trapezius!

Signs of dysfunction in this muscle are similar to the cervical portion but more caudal. This is also another common muscle that I see atrophied in jumper horses but also many other disciplines.

Poor saddle fit may also be a cause for dysfunction, so if you notice atrophy in this area, be sure to contact a bodyworker and a saddle fitter (always address lameness's/illness concerns with your veterinarian).

Exercises to strengthen this muscle includes hill work, ground poles, and wither lifts.

How to prepare for a session!

Having your horse prepared for their session helps myself and your horse! If your horse has not been groomed, that is not only uncomfortable on my hands, but it is uncomfortable for your horse. Even if your horse looks clean, please do a once over with soft brush to help get any trapped dirt/sand out of their fur.

Please try to plan for your horse to have their session well before or after their feeding times, etc. This helps them relax fully into the session and not spend the whole time antsy. I want to ensure that you and your horses are getting your moneys worth!

Ensuring your horse is ready to go for their session, increases efficiency for myself and allows me to spend their whole session treating them.

Life is full of mistakes, failures, and pain. But that is how we learn! We must go through the trials and tribulations of life to experience success.

I have made PLENTY of mistakes, gotten hurt, and experienced many failures but that has only allowed me to grow into the woman that I am today. With the knowledge and experience that I have.

Do I have a long way to go still? Of course! And I'm excited to see what the future holds!
