On Sunday, April 23, Okawville VFW Post 5596 held a dinner for members of the post and their invited guests. There were 25 people in attendance.
Special guests were District 14 VFW Commander, Rod Thompson. Also, there were Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen essay winners for district 14 and their parents.
Tyler Storck, 1st place Patriot Pen winner from Immanuel Lutheran School, and the 1st place winner for District 14 VFW.
Raelyn Obermeier, 2nd place Voice of Democracy winner at Okawville High School.
Lydia Luechtefeld, 3rd place Voice of Democracy winner at Okawville High School.
Maddy Dulle, 3rd place Patriot Pen winner at Okawville Grade School.
Other contestants who were unable to attend were:
Nolan Langenfeld, 2nd place Patriot Pen winner and Sophia Wood, 3rd place Patriot Pen winner both from Immanuel Lutheran.
Lexy Borrenpohl, 1st place Voice of Democracy winner at Okawville High School and 3rd place winner for VFW District 14.
Elly Hesker, 1st place Patriot Pen, Brynn Rhodes, 2nd place Patriot Pen for Okawville Grade School.
Post 5596 will host a dinner for Members and guests on 23 April at the Original Springs Hotel. Social hour with cash bar begins at 4pm with dinner following at 5pm. RSVP by calling 618 830 6774 before 2pm on 21 April, 2023.
We meet the third Monday of each month at the Original Springs Hotel, 506 Hanover St., Okawville, Il. Meeting is held at 7pm in the Lions Club Room.
