Hot Topic 🔥: Mixing Metals
Here’s our take: If it feels right to you then go for it. If it doesn’t, then don’t.
Most importantly: Don’t let someone tell you how to design or put love into your home. It’s your space, baby, go wild 🤠

Three Tips for bringing your historic home back to what it was originally meant to be:
❶ Observe + research - What can you deduce was the original intention of the space? For example, this nook in the kitchen was originally used as a breakfast nook but had since been covered with (awkward) cabinetry.
We chose to honor the home and bring back this charming feature. What do you think?
❷ Red oak hardwood floors. Always: it was a difficult decision for these clients to invest more into the space than they originally budgeted but in the end, the responsibility of stewarding the home well won out.
We were able to demo the linoleum covering 1/2 of the floors, an aftermath of previous remodels, and the result took our breath away and right back to the homes former glory.
❸ Mosaic tile over large format: not shown in these photos but this makes sense for two reasons:
1 - Historic homes are generally un-level which gives mosaic tile’s flexibility (being on a mesh sheet) an advantage.
2. Large tiles are not invented at the time many of these homes were originally built which is why they always look out of place in a historic home.

Pour yourself a drink this afternoon in the space you have dreamed of remodeling for years.
Every remodel or new build begins with sending us a little bit about your goals. No surprises here - Here are the questions we ask:
1. Project description
2. When do you want to break ground?
3. How will you be financing your project?
4. Is the financing already secured?
5. How much are you looking to spend?
6. Do you have any interior designers or architects already involved?
7. Do you have a Pinterest board?
8. What else would be helpful for us to know?
9. How did you hear about us?
See, it’s as easy as that. Follow the link in our bio to begin your building journey today!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“For a few months, my wife and I had been interviewing contractors for a medium-sized addition to our home. We were at our wit’s end between un-returned phone calls and unfruitful meetings when Brit from James Grey Homes got in touch following an email enquiry.
After an initial meeting and the drawing up of plans to expand our master suite (with a full closet!) and add laundry, pantry, and mud rooms, it was apparent that Brit & Justin were as excited about our potential project as we were. They worked with us on budget and design options to turn a “maybe we can do this” deal into a “YES! Let’s make this home what we really want!”
Fast forward from January to March: we are fully in construction mode, and are just as happy with the James Grey team as we were in the beginning. They are communicative and timely, which I’ve found to be rare in the industry. They are transparent and welcome tough questions (just as rare), and they bring in top-notch tradesfolk who do great work while also working out solutions to the problems that inevitably come up when adding onto a 100+-year-old home.
We are a couple months in on the project, and can see the finish line. Everything is framed, roofed, plumbed, and electrified with drywall, flooring, and fixtures soon to come. James Grey is on-site and/or in touch with updates every day to keep us apprised of progress as well as what to expect every day as we move forward.
I expect to be leaving another 5-star review once the project is done (with pics), and can’t recommend the James Grey Homes team highly enough. Thanks for being such great partners, Brit & Justin!”

How do you know when it’s time to hire a pro?
Here are four things you might not think to ask yourself to help you easily make that decision:
1. Would making a mistake have serious consequences?
2. Does your renovation require a permit?
3. Is this your forever home or will you eventually sell?
4. Is this project worth your time?
Long story short: try DIY if you have the right abilities or can easily learn the skills needed for the project, but defer to a contractor if it’s not worth your time or the risk.
Shoot us a text to chat pros and cons of doing it yourself or leaving it to the pros.
✨ BEFORE & AFTER ✨ 👉🏼
NEWLY-BUILT HOMES RARELY MAKE HISTORY.
Most of us have at least one room in our home where we wish a previous homeowner had made a better choice, had honored the home instead of following a trend — drywall where there should be plaster; carpet or tile where the wood floors could have been; an Amazon Echo where a turntable might have gone.
Don’t you wish you could go back in time and plead with that past homeowner?
Next time tell them, “Your history is my historic. Take a chance — do something special, meaningful, wild even.”
Pour love into your historic home. Honor it and cherish it Add your history and make a little history along the way too.

Reviews from our Homeowners!
It makes our day when a Homeowner takes the time to jot down a few sweet words about our work. As a small business, even one review goes such a long way.

Part 2 of the attic transformation in Mesta Park 🏡
It took some figuring out, but we finally were able to tick off every priority on our client's list.
✔️ A full build-out of their previously uninhabitable attic space.
✔️ That the build-out includes a bathroom, study, and living and sleeping spaces.
✔️ Enough space in the sleeping area for a king-sized bed.
Turning visions into realities one attic at a time. Let's make a home together.
A little about our mascot: The Bowerbird ✨
Bowerbirds are gatherers, organizers, and builders. These incredible birds create elaborate structures – bowers – out of the numerous materials they collect nearby (one might say they’re “locally-sourced”) and meticulously sort by color. The bower begins as an ornate threshold meant to attract a mate, but later serves as a piece of the family home.

Pets aren't just companions. They are cherished family members deserving of our time and care. This is our mindset when we're asked to create designated pet areas.
