We're so proud of these talented choreographers! The pieces they created were so strong. We appreciate their hard work, organization, and artistry!
Last but not least for our Senior Spotlights is Irene! * Irene graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma. * Irene will be attending University of Washington (Seattle), to study Philosophy as her Major and Design as her Minor. * Favorite BNW role: Little Swan in "Swan Lake." * Favorite BNW memory: "Doing secret gifts backstage was a fun opportunity to connect with others. I will miss the community, teachers, and memories at BNW." * From Ken & Josie: "We will miss Irene's wonderful stage presence and positivity. She always presented herself so professionally in all rehearsals and performances. We also admired how she juggled academics and other activities with dance, all while commuting from Tacoma."
Today's Senior Spotlight is Jack! * Jack graduated from WF West High School and Centralia College. * Next year Jack will be attending Joffrey Ballet School's Trainee Program in New York. * Favorite BNW roles: Gitanos in "Don Quixote" and Nutcracker in "The Nutcracker." * Favorite BNW memories: Nutcracker dressing room decorating, especially the Amy Winehouse poster. I am very grateful for Ballet Northwest because they offer a unique sense of family and friendship, while maintaining a professional studio that leads students to success. I am also grateful for the inclusivity and open mind at Ballet Northwest. I have grown a lot here. Thank you so much for all of the support along the way! * From Ken & Josie: "We will miss Jack's kindness in the studio. We're so proud of her amazing progress after starting pointe in the last year, working hard, and then succesfully dancing pointe roles in both Nutcracker and Don Quixote! We're so excited Jack will continue to dance at the historic Joffrey Ballet School in New York City."
Today's Senior Spotlight is Penelope! * Penelope graduated from Capital High School. * She'll be taking a gap year to focus on work. * Favorite BNW roles: Clara and Little Swan. * Favorite BNW memories were during rehearsals and in the dressing rooms around showtimes. Also, filling in for Candy Cane is a top memory. Penelope says, "I’ll miss the community and atmosphere, and friendships I’ve made over the past 11 years!" *From Ken & Josie: "We'll always have fond memories of Penelope jumping into younger dancers' roles if someone was sick at the last minute. Because she's such a great dancer, smart performer and quick learner, she was able to do this with ease, and always with a positive attitude to help out the team. Most recently she danced the Candy Cane role in The Nutcracker with 10-12 year olds, on top of her Snow and Soloist roles! We've enjoyed watching her grow up in the studio, and seeing how dance has helped her grow as a person."
The next senior spotlight is Kate! * Kate graduated from Olympia High School. * She'll be attending Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, where she'll be majoring in kinesiology and minoring in dance. * Favorite BNW role: one of Cinderella's stepsisters in Sleeping Beauty in 2021. * Favorite BNW memories include doing company classes onstage at the Washington Center and having fun doing spirit week for every show I was in. Kate says, "Even though I haven't been in the company for a long time, what I'm definitely going to miss about BNW is all of the friendships that I've made ever since I first joined the company and I'm also going to miss Ken, Josie, and all of my teachers at the studio that made me the dancer that I am today." * From Ken & Josie: "Kate always has a smile on her face. We appreciate her perseverence and positivity, and are so glad she came to BNW once she moved to Olympia. We'll always remember her fabulous portrayal of one of Cinderella's stepsisters in The Sleeping Beauty, and are excited she'll continue dancing in college!"
Today's senior spotlight is Morgen! * Morgen graduated from Shelton High School. * Next year she will be attending University of Portland and majoring in nursing. * Favorite BNW role: Aurora's Friends. *Favorite BNW memory: performing Synergy in Seattle. Morgen says, "I will miss the people and how everyone treats each other like a family member." * From Ken & Josie: "We will miss Morgen's kindness, positivity, and easy-going attitude. She's always a genuine and mature presence in the studio. We also admire how she juggled her commute from Shelton, dance, and academic studies in preparation for a nursing career. We know she will be an amazing nurse!"
Today's Senior Spotlight is....Jasmine! * Jasmine graduated from Pope John Paul II High School.. * Next year Jasmine will be attending Saint Martins University. * Favorite BNW roles are Tea in "Nutcracker" and Courtier in "Sleeping Beauty". * Favorite BNW memory is being called the "Prop Disposal Team" (with RJ) by Ken during Don Q. Jasmine will miss performing on stage. * From Ken & Josie: "We will miss Jasmine's positive attitude, sensitivity, and kindness. We appreciate how Jasmine always showed passion and joy for dance with a beautiful smile on stage, whether it be in Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, or Don Quixote. We wish Jasmine the best of luck at Saint Martins!"
Today's Senior Spotlight is....Brier! * Brier graduated from Steilacoom High School and Pierce College. * She will be attending University of Washington, majoring in Urban Design. * Favorite BNW roles: Flower Girl in "Don Quixote" and Mother G kid in "The Nutcracker". * Favorite BNW memory: "2019 Nutcracker, as it was my first time dancing with Ballet Northwest and one of the last times dancing with my sister on stage. I’ll miss the long rehearsals and being in the studio with all my friends." * From Ken & Josie: "We will miss Brier's sense of humor and perseverance. She was able to juggle school, work and dance successfully. As a classroom assistant and one of the company liaisons this past year, she took on a leadership role within the company. We know she will be a great success!"
We're excited to recognize our amazing graduating seniors. First up is Kassie! * Kassie is graduating from Olympia High School. * She will be attending University of Washington, double majoring in Biology and Dance. * Favorite BNW role: Dew Drop. * Favorite BNW memory: "I always love hanging out backstage with all my friends before performances. I will miss the Ballet Northwest community and all the strong connections I have made during my time here." * From Ken & Josie: "We will miss Kassie's amazing work ethic and kindness. With great determination and a positive attitude she progressed through the ranks of BNW.
