“Pillow -Dahlia”
This dahlia image was taken at the Point Defiance Park Dahlia Garden in Tacoma, WA. It was an overcast day, perfect for flower pictures.
This is also available in the Gift Shop as a card, ceramic tile, and tote bag.

From my online gallery // "Pillow- Sunbathing Hoary Marmot"
https://store.rosalindphilipsphotography.com/merchandise-warehouse/art_print_products/pillow-hoarymarmot
This image, of a hoary marmot sunbathing in the evening light, was taken along the Paradise Valley Loop Road at Mt. Rainier National Park in Washington State. There are a couple of places where you can count on seeing marmots in the morning and late afternoon along the road. Hoary Marmots are also called "Whistle Pigs" due to their whistled alarm call. They are the size of a house cat and weigh around 10 pounds.

Penguin Walk is an image of King Penguins taken at St. Andrews Bay on South Georgia Island. This is same group of penguins that were photographed in Penguin Friends. I like to think of this one as Abbey Road.

"Cosmic Waterfall” | AVAILABLE
Cosmic Waterfall
This is one of my very first Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) pictures. It was taken at the Paradise River in Mt. Rainier National Park along the Paradise Valley Loop Road. The image was taken by zooming my lens in and out during a long exposure. Every time I look at the image, I see something different. Hence, the name cosmic. After all, the cosmos is always changing.

"Tote Bag Lupine Abstract"
Lupine Abstract is a stunning digital art image that captures the essence of the beautiful lupine flower in a unique and captivating way. I took the original image of lupine, applied blurs and rotations, to create this work of digital art. I find the combination of purples and greens to be very soothing.

Came across this NPR article on crows. Fascinating!
Crows can count out loud like human toddlers — when they aren't cheating the test A study finds that carrion crows can be taught to count and make vocalizations that indicate the number counted, much in the same way that human toddlers do.

Happy Monday and have a great week!
Cape Flattery is located on the northwest tip of Washington State on the wild pacific coast. It is full of seastacks, nesting sea birds and stubby trees twisted by the wind. It is a short steep descent from the parking lot which of course means it is a long steep climb on the return. The vistas are breathtaking. This is one that I could not look away from.
A Sunday night selection 🌙
This particular evening at Mt. Rainier National Park, I was experimenting with star trails. Star trails result because the earth is moving. If your shutter speed is greater than 25 seconds, you will see streaks of light instead of pinpoints for stars. I set my camera up to take 30 images with a shutter speed of 13 seconds over 20 minutes. The image below is the result after I stacked the images in Photoshop. The pinkish glow in the lower corner is light pollution. The north star is the pin point of light at the center of the circle.

☀️ “The world always seems brighter when you’ve just made something that wasn’t there before.”
"Sea Lion Pup"
The Galapagos sea lion is endemic to the Galapagos Islands. You can tell that it is a sea lion and not a seal because it has external ears. A true seal has internal ears. This is a picture of a pup nestled up to an adult. I love the heart shaped nose.

I'm calling this one "Food Coma." I took this Grizzly Bear picture near Tower Junction in Yellowstone National Park. This bear was feeding on the remnants of a carcass. I watched it for quite a while. My favorite observation was of the raven that was playing chicken with the bear trying to get a scrap of the remains.
"Great Blue Heron Anhinga Trail Everglades National Park Florida" • Available
I have a love affair with Great Blue Herons and this is one of my favorites images. I took this picture as I was walking along the Anhinga Trail in Florida’s Everglades National Park. This heron posed regally among the reeds. I am particularly fond of the feather detail.

This is an American Badger with her kit that I took in Yellowstone National Park in late May. I've been a bit slow editing.
Here are some images from our fabulous MW trip to Paradise (Mt. Rainier) on Saturday night. It was a perfect night for astrophotography. It was clear with minimal smoke haze from the fires in eastern Washington. I have a new lens for MW that I was trying out. I am quite pleased. Which image do you like better, the horizontal one or the vertical one?
I'm continuing to keep these in stock for the summer season!

Wood Duck Drake
Spring is a wonderful time to observe wood duck. Both the drakes and hens are resplendent in fresh feathers and colors. This image was taken at McLane Creek Nature Trail in Olympia Washington during one of our rare sunny spring days. The males were displaying, chasing the females around the pond and every now and then getting lucky and chosen for mating.
The colors of the wood duck are so vibrant that this looks best as a metal or an acrylic print. These media really accentuate color and give the image an almost 3-D appearance.
