OUSD Recall
Information Relevant to the 2023 Orange Unified School District (CA) School Board Recall.
Where are the crossing guards?
City of Orange nixes school crossing guards, annual ceremonies amid budget cuts In order to fix its budget deficit, the City of Orange has elected to slash funding for several sectors, including the school crossing guard program. The city is responsible for filling the p…
Amid a budget crisis in the City of Orange the crossing guards have disappeared from crosswalks near schools. Who in Orange leadership decided that student, pedestrian, and motorist safety around schools is not a priority? Meanwhile there are zero cuts to other “safety” programs.
Tonight the city council will vote to give that same leadership a raise that would more than cover the cost of this program.
This is not an OUSD problem. This is a City problem. Every other city in the county prioritizes safety near schools by paying for crossing guards.
Do better Orange.

Public education is where the magic of diversity truly shines!
In our public schools, every student’s unique background and perspective are celebrated. This rich blend of experiences not only makes our classrooms more vibrant but also prepares our kids for a world that thrives on collaboration and understanding. 🤝💡
Let’s champion and support public education for its power to unite us and its role in nurturing a future where every voice matters. Together, we can build a more inclusive and compassionate world, one classroom at a time. 🌟📖
Public education is the foundation of our great nation. Together we must defend, support & strengthen our public schools.
Have Ortega and Rumsey given up? Neither were at the start of the board meeting. This is John's SECOND MEETING IN A ROW, although "normal" for his 20-year attendance record, he hasn't been there. OUSD families deserve respresentation that will show up for their students. They barely engage with our schools, the least they can do is show up for meetings.
College for Kids & Teens is a free summer program for OUSD students at Santiago Canyon College, offering classes in everything from acting to chemistry.
What are some of your favorite summer activities?

Happy 4th of July!
Public education is the means by which all children dream their dreams and achieve them.
Educators help students build lives of great purpose and potential, by instilling essential knowledge and skills, including critical reasoning, problem-solving and working with others, and by promoting civic participation.
High-quality public education is a necessity and an anchor of our democracy.
Together we must defend, support & strengthen our public schools. And we must do that now.
Our children deserve no less.
All young people should have opportunities to prepare for life, college, career, and citizenship in a welcoming and safe learning environment.
Our public schools shouldn’t be pawns for politicians’ ambitions. Or defunded & destroyed by ideologues.
A great nation does not fear people being educated. A great nation chooses freedom, democracy, equality & opportunity.
All of that starts in our public schools. Together we must defend, support & strengthen our public schools. And we must do that now.

The pervasive indoctrination she had railed against simply did not exist. Children were not being sexualized….Instead, Gore found the materials taught children “how to be a good friend, a good human.”
A GOP Texas school board member campaigned against schools indoctrinating kids. Then she read the curriculum. Courtney Gore, a Granbury ISD school board member, has disavowed the far-right platform she campaigned on. Her defiance has brought her backlash.

Culture wars upended this school district. Then came the recall | CNN Politics As culture wars are waged in school boards across the country, one district in Southern California recalled two board members who pushed controversial policies championed by the “parental rights” movement.
Will John Ortega show up at the next school board meeting on May 9, 2024? John Ortega has a long history of only showing up when he wants something.
We need leaders who will show up for our students. Vote out John Ortega in November.

Yesterday, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake shook Orange County, & OUSD students. Instead of bringing our elementary schools up to earthquake safety standards, school board members John Ortega & Angie Rumsey spent most of our facilities savings on a luxury aquatics center at one high school.
Real school board leaders prioritize student safety over pet projects. Vote them out on November 5th, 2024.
Board members John Ortega & Angie Rumsey voted to spend most of our facilities savings on a luxury aquatics center at a single school instead of giving elementary schools EARTHQUAKE safety updates. Real school board leaders prioritize student safety over pet projects.
In advance of Thursday’s special school board meeting, we thought these graphics would be a good reminder to the OUSD community of what good governance looks like. There is a lot of noise surrounding public education these days. It’s easy to get distracted & forget what good governance actually looks like. Here are a few key points to keep in mind.
