Even from a spectators point of view, Glassblowing is a EXTREMELY abrasive art, I for one consider it to be the extreme sports of the art world, it takes a equal amount of mind , body and soul to create with 2,000 degree molten material.

Today's Topic: Lower Back Issues!!!!!! Of Course this is the number one problem for artists that are lifting with their backs and constantly hunched over. Thus creating really awful back pain.

What can we do to help prevent this?

Well lets just start with two options for today,
#1 is to wear a back brace, TIP: (if you wear it under your shirt, no one is going to notice ), Wearing a back brace can provide stability to your muscles, ligaments and joints. Wearing a brace can help alleviate muscle tension by reducing pressure on the spine, and reducing the amount of strength needed in the muscles to support the spinal column. Heat from wearing the brace can help relax tense muscles, contributing to pain relief.

Option #2 is Light Stretching with the Child’s Pose
This traditional yoga pose gently stretches your gluteus maximus, latissimus dorsi (lats), and spinal extensors. It helps relieve pain and tension all along your spine, neck, and shoulders.

Its relaxing effect on your body also helps loosen up tight lower back muscles, promoting flexibility along the spine.

To do Child’s Pose, follow these steps:

With your hands and knees on the ground, sink back through your hips to rest them on your heels.
Hinge at your hips as you fold forward, walking your hands out in front of you.
Rest your belly on your thighs.
Extend your arms in front of or alongside your body with your palms facing down.
Focus on breathing deeply and relaxing any areas of tension or tightness.
Hold this pose for up to 1 minute.
