The Poet Colleen
Welcome to the world of The Poet Colleen and the spoken word alter ego of writer Colleen Dieckmann.
More avant-garde than her academic counterpart, Crazy Colleen will share something fun, daring, and often delicious.
I've changed my page name to The Poet Colleen. Same me but a better name for my range of print and performance, flamboyant to soul songs.
Great to see these programs and Poets working and supported in our communities!

Orlando’s Fringe Festival this season was inspiring! Yay for more art - poetry in all forms! So happy to attend these stunning, heartfelt, and sometimes funny shows: Opera Orlando’s The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Shakespeare’s Terminator, Shirley Valentine, Blackwood, 6 Guitars, and the abbreviated version of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night . . . plus the fun around the food and OGC’s outside concert. I’m ready for next year! :-D
The Florida beach
late spring
with a front off the coast
sand between the toes
red flag waving in a direction
opposite the dimpled waves
scattered surfers managing height
while a few families pack up
umbrellas, towels, children.
A man with the golden retriever
walks close over the grass patched dune,
a few shells and one fisherman,
small feet - prints in the sand,
the edge of ocean foaming
slides up out of giant waves
erasing the toe maps of birds
and pulling back the small shells.
More surfers dash down the bridge
holding their boards and dreams
of a higher flight against the drizzle
and rising whirl of the surf.
Further down the man and the golden dog
find my path at the end
of the peninsula,
rocks with harmonic angles
the water flying high and reflecting
so many mirrors of sky and sun
and impending weather.
I too capture the afternoon,
not from the height of the waves,
but with photos freezing the dance
of water over the rocks,
the shadow of the man and dog
walking along the edge to home,
the nod from the fisherman
sitting silently in his beach chair
holding the end of a near invisible
line into the ocean,
small photo dances with birds
looking for their next nibble,
and a few small shells curved
and chipped into the unique
patterns of passage
we all hold in our pockets.
