This is how it’s done!
Kudos Councilor Matt Mugerauer for reiterating that partisan politics have no place in nonpartisan elections.
keep up the good work.
Endorsements and Politics in Local Elections.....
Been hearing lots of talk about endorsements and partisan politics in our local elections as of late.
Thought it was time you heard directly from me on this.
Full disclosure: I have received the endorsement of the Winnebago GOP.
First, local government is supposed to be where good people come together to do good work on behalf of their neighbors. Not score the next big political victory. Partisan politics has NO business in our local government.
Numerous groups and individuals have reached out this year, and every election I have ran in, to offer their support. I appreciate that there are groups and individuals who think I'm worthy of an endorsement. The big difference is…… I don’t ask for them.
By asking for endorsements, you call into question your allegiances. Who will you be faithful to, the voters and taxpayers or special interest’s groups that "helped" get you elected (political party’s included)? You won’t see any endorsements on any of my social media, nor hear me speak of them.
I'll let my actions on Council over the last five years do the talking.
There is only one endorsement I want, the voters on Tuesday, April 4th.
local elections are the most important as they impact your daily life most quickly.
these candidates:
1. understand that their role is to act on important issues on YOUR behalf.
2. will email you back when you ask a question or have a concern
3. understand the importance of a Council/Manager form of government and are NOT beholden to any special interest groups (they will be there for you!)
if you do not vote regularly in local elections, you should (typical turnout is only %12).
It's time to make your voice heard and share with others!

Yes!
This is a very similar water treatment plant to the one here in Oshkosh, and Evanston was facing nearly the exact same challenges as we are, as this site was in need of repair, was too costly to move offsite, but was also in close proximity (seriously about the same distance as our Washington Ave and Lakeshore dr. here) to their waterfornt.
They needed 5M gallons of storage. We need 2.
Somehow they not only took the time to actually look at more options than just placing giant new tanks in close proximity to an area that their residents prize...they then they decided to choose an option that made the most of their poorly located site and actually improved the area for future generations.
Evanston is 140 miles from here, is bound and governed by the same environmental constraints as WI is with regard to burying tanks/safe water etc.
The Evanston project, at more than double the size of what Oshkosh is proposing, was completed for $20M...while our projected cost, for massive industrial tanks above ground instead of the lovely solution in the video below, is estimated at $34M.
There could be some reason this is impossible on our site...but it is looking more and more likely every single day that your Council will ONLY be presented options for tanks that are above ground, and directly on the waterfront...even while space is available, at least in theory, on that same site...further inland (which would be another great way to mitigate some of the ugliness of the current proposal) and while projects like the one below are being completed in nearby cities.
We have certainly asked all of your City Council lots of these questions...and have heard back from 6 of the 7 that at least seem to be open to exploring ANY other option than only one very specific location on this site.
Before we go down a path that will affect folks who live here every day, and continue to do so for the next 100 years, it would be great to explore more than the essentially 1 option currently on the table.
if you feel the same way, here's that link as always...ask YOUR Councilors to request more options on this site before 'choices' are made at their Feb 8 meeting.
