The last 20 months have presented its fair share of challenges for people around the world. A pandemic induced furlough provided an opportunity for Meghan Najewicz ‘13 to start something beautiful.

Najewicz studied visual communication design, now graphic design, while attending Stevenson. “I never really took art classes until college,” said Najewicz who was also a two-sport student-athlete, running cross country in the fall and playing lacrosse in the spring. Najewicz was a member of the 2010 Women's Lacrosse team that was inducted into the 2021 Dick Watts Hall of Fame.

Najewicz began working as a graphic designer right out of college and the idea of starting a small business had crossed her mind, but was something that she never expected doing so soon. “I had previously done freelancing, but during COVID I ended up drawing a lot when I was at home and everything just kind of grew from there.”

In July 2021, Najewicz went full time with her small business, the letters mdn. “I joined Makers of Maryland, which was a big step.” Now, her work can be found in four shops across the region, on her website, and at local markets on the weekends.

As for staying connected with Stevenson, you have likely seen Najewicz’s work on t-shirts and event logos. Najewicz designed the logo for the Shannon Henretty Annual Nursing Scholarship as well as the t-shirts for the Shannon Henretty ‘14 Invitational held every fall. Najewicz honors her former teammate and friend by making the scholarship fund a personal philanthropic priority.
