Good Stuff John Straub!

Mr. John Straub received the McCracken County Sheriff's Special Recognition Award today. Pictured are Mr. Straub, Judge Henschel, and Sheriff Norman.

"On December 6, 2023, John Straub was working as an attorney inside the McCracken County Family Courtroom. During a hearing, a participant became very unruly. After Judge Henschel wanted the participant removed, the participant began to fight the McCracken County Sheriff's Office Court Security Officer. Seeing that the Court Security Officer and innocent bystanders were in danger, John Straub wasted no time to jump to their aid.

Mr. Straub placed himself in danger of bodily harm and helped the Court Security Officer and a bystander subdue the unruly and violent court participant. Thanks to Mr. Straub's quick actions, no person was seriously injured. Had Mr. Straub not acted quickly and decisively and assisted the Court Security Officer, innocent bystanders and court participants most likely would have been injured."

Yesterday, I was fortunate to join other community leaders for an open discussion regarding addiction, recovery and the impact on the “labor pool” necessary for economic development. Truly an impressive program by the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce. I appreciate the number of leaders in our community who attended and participated in the discussion.

The Paducah Chamber was proud to host the Kentucky Chamber this week as part of their Comeback Tour luncheon and community discussion about effective and empathetic approaches to criminal justice and substance use disorder recovery. Professionals from various sectors – elected officials, recovery experts, members of the legal community, police officers, second chance employers, and individuals passionate about criminal justice reform, behavioral health, and substance use disorder recovery – came together and contributed to the conversation to inform the Kentucky Chamber about programs that have been implemented in Paducah and McCracken County, and the additional steps local, regional and state partners should take to address these issues effectively. The Paducah Chamber is proud to support the Kentucky Chamber to further this discussion.
