Mountain Lion Mama
Spring is in the air and with it comes exciting Mountain Lion news! 🌷 🐾 🐱
This past December, one of the female mountain lions who roams the San Gabriel mountains met a mate! Denis Callet caught beautiful footage of the two strolling and prowling together on one of our preserves.
Then, in March, Denis checked his cameras again, and low and behold, saw that she's pregnant!
This mountain lion mama-to-be's story underscores the vital importance of saving and restoring habitat within our urban matrix.
By creating sanctuaries of biodiversity, and corridors that promote safe movement, we give these beautiful creatures a better chance at surviving, and peacefully coexisting, in the habitat that humans have so heavily encroached upon.
We are so excited to see our local big cats flourishing, and cannot wait to follow along on this mama's journey!

It's well understood that access to nature improves our well-being, but did you know specifically hearing bird songs has a profound impact on our mental health? And not just that, but the more biodiversity you're exposed to, the bigger the positive effect!
A study from 2022 published in Scientific Reports found that hearing bird songs significantly decreases feelings of depression, anxiety, and paranoia. Depression in particular, is especially reduced when you hear a chorus of songs from different species.
Just a few minutes in the company of our feathered friends (whether you see them or not!) has a healing effect. The well-being of all living creatures is interconnected: when we promote biodiversity and fight for equitable access to nature we're supporting wildlife as well as ourselves.
