Our fourth session on Friday April 5th features RIE Mentor Teacher Kira Solomatova. Kira is a child development expert and has always had a passion for working with children. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development with a focus on bilingual families. Kira worked as a preschool teacher for several years, where she observed the stresses and challenges that parents and teachers faced throughout the day. She noticed that parents and teachers tried to eliminate the struggles and “put down the fire,” but it seemed like a never-ending cycle. She continued her studies until she found RIE, which provided the missing piece. Not only did the Educaring Approach help Kira advocate for children, it also helped Kira become a more authentic person herself. Kira published her first book, “Toby is My Bear” as part of a conflict resolution series for preschoolers. What objects and play spaces invite children to explore?  * Objects that are safe, simple and open-ended allowing the child to engage in active play.   * Objects that do not require adult supervision and vary in size, texture, weight and shape.  * Everyday objects found in your home: recycled materials, kitchen items, varying fabrics and empty boxes.  Similar to play objects, the play space should be accessible to the child without adult assistance and have open space for free movement.  Climbing apparatus, like the Pikler triangle, low ramps, and platforms allow children to climb freely and are at a safe height.   What might you add? —- 📷: @kirasolomatova
