Larry and Helen Asplaugh gave me my first job and the tools in the event and theatrical lighting business to succeed .They saw my love for my craft when I was 19 years old . Temple Israel was built out of a desire for a Reform congregation in South Florida, less traditional and observant than Orthodox and Conservative branches of Judaism. So members of Miami’s oldest congregation, Beth David — which was founded in 1912 — broke away in 1922. Charter members began meeting in church classrooms, and their first home was a wooden structure at Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 13th Street, now the site of the Arsht performing arts center. In 1927, 216 families moved to the present location at 137 NE 19th St., south of Wynwood and west of U.S. 1.

Decor Lighting has been my Life..

I began to realize my passion for lighting when I was 10 years old and I put Star Wars figures on a wooden block stage and pretended they were KISS and started running Xmas lights and flood lights all around them and under them. My dad started building me lightboards at age 12 , so I would not burn the house down plugging and unplugging the lights . By high school, I was putting on light shows during lunch and popping up at open house parties before they began and giving them a light show for free for the band or dj that was there. In 1988 I got my first paying Gig from Larry Asplagh with Sterling Productions setting up and running the lights at The Campus Life Haunted house Power 96 sound stage for Wheels to Power, Erotic Exotic,Expose And a few other Track Acts. From 1988 to 2002, I have worked for many Sound and Lighting companies and the IATSE UNION and also ran followspot for some of the biggest Musical Artists and bands on the planet. In 2002, my wife Karen bought me a high priced light I jokenly asked for and told me to Rent it out. And so began my company Rays Of Light. Today we specialize in social events such as Wedding, Mitzvah’s and a few corporate gigs as well. If you are not fortunate enough to make money doing what you love, You should at least be doing it as a hobby.
