Grace and Mercy ✨💙
I have been thinking a lot bout the concept of grace and mercy. Everyone always says ‘give yourself grace’. Do you know what it really means to have grace? Do you know the difference between giving yourself grace and God’s grace? A better one is: Do you know the difference between grace and mercy? When you finally grasp that concept, I promise, you will approach your conversations with God with way more gartitude.
•
Looking back on my life I can’t help but to give myself grace. I am so hard on myself. I’m so gentle with others but so very harsh on myself. Giving yourself grace when you battle with feelings of worthiness is a tall order. To do this takes self love. And if there is one thing I’ve learned along my life journey is that most lessons lead to self love. Nothing and no one can love you as much as you love yourself. So it’s best you choose yourself every time and over everyone. You deserve that love from yourself.

I have come so far in life. I can proudly say, with real intention, things do get better with time. When I look back at myself and see all of the beautiful strides I’ve made I know it was because God had grace and mercy for me. Grace to bless me with things (as a perpetual sinner lol) I don’t deserve and the mercy to spare me of the things I do deserve. 💡‼️

Transformation 😮‍💨🦋

Maan. It’s been a whirlwind in just a few short months. You never realize the magnitude of what you are praying for and the inevitable changes that come with them. I longed to be closer to God; to hear his voice. And boy does he make himself heard now. 😳 My life and perspective has shifted in ways I would have never imagined. I’ve been pulled closer to and shifted away from so many’s things. Obeying the word God has given over my life has been fairly easy in most areas, until recently lol. My heart space has been completely filled lately. 💙 It’s the first time in a while. I’m grateful but it’s an area that God and I don’t agree. 💔

What do you do when you long for God’s guidance but you don’t like what he’s saying or what he wants you to let go of? 🥺 Man, does God know exactly where to test you so that you may grow. Building your intuition IS building a relationship with God. To trust yourself IS to trust God. Will you do what needs to be done once God has spoken?

It’s really hard to become someone you’ve never been. Learning to trust... “It’s like walking in pitch black darkness. You know it’s a scary thing to do but somehow you don’t feel scared.” -YP 💙

A new season is finally here. Things we’ve been working so hard for are ready to bloom this spring!

I love working with families. I love seeing them evolve and grow over the years. Deciding to become a family and staying a family is such a sacred covenant between people. And if we truly look at the different aspects of our lives, we will find that those we call family often have the biggest impact on us. The memory of a family photograph can live for generations. Sometimes it’s the only thing we have to push the essence of our family forward.. a photo.

I know it’s been a while. The end of the year is hard for me. For some reason trauma complies at the end of the year. I’m not sure if it’s the change of seasons or the energy that comes from all the holidays being compressed together, but by October anxiety and the blues are settling in. I tried to keep things aligned like I’d prefer and foolishly expected them, but it was too much 🥺
•
Nonetheless, we are here and by God’s grace. I must say I am feeling great these past few days despite a few bumps at the start of the year. I have been working on my state of mind for this year since last year. I took the lessons and self awareness I gained in my previous years and intentionally put them into practice (some areas are doing better than others lol).
•
As I start this year my current focus is surrendering. My mother has been trying to explain this concept to me for over a year. I finally understand this aspect of faith… surrendering. Not only is it about truly believing God’s word over you and your life but trusting in his process to get you there. Sometimes we fall short in this area because the journey doesn’t look or feel like how we’d want but, we always get what we need.

Transparency ✨ Part 3
Can you recognize those that can see you? Those that share the same motivation to heal and grow closer to the divine? I will admit I haven’t been the best at discerning this and at times I’ve let my own negativity pull me away from my blessings. I’m so grateful for those that can see me. Grateful for those that appreciate and value my presence in their lives. Thank you very much. I pray God continues to place individuals in my path that help bring me closer to my highest good. I pray that being transparent about growth and healing encourages someone else in some capacity.

Transparency ✨ Part 2
I have been photographing myself for almost 7 years and this is one of the sessions I dislike the most. I went back-and-forth about posting these images, but I had to set my ego to the side and look for the message because everything happens for a reason. There was a message I was supposed to deliver to you through this experience. I had to remind myself that things may not always about me. Sometimes you’re just a small part in a greater picture. But you are necessary. Every experience is necessary. Do not take your impact or your existence for granted. God is so purposeful and you have to believe that he has so much intention for your life. You have to know that even the smallest actions are impactful, they are important. You are important and meaningful to others. Do the work. Everyone has to do the work. The real change we are waiting to see does not happen individually. It happens together.

As I built my portfolio my main goal was to create more content that included black families. We need to see this more often. Transparency ✨ Part 1
Things have been changing so much for me internally. I have been trying to write this post for weeks, maybe even months. My interest and intentions are shifting. I used to really enjoy the validation that I would get from my creativity being liked by my peers, my family and friends. But the purpose of everything I’m doing has changed and the validation means absolutely nothing to me. Growing spiritually, has really changed my life. I’m still trying to figure everything out. I still have moments that feel like regression but I can see the growth and change. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to participate in things that feel unauthentic. And sometimes this particular 3-D space can feel like a bit unauthentic….

Becoming a business owner is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I see why people compare it to having a child. You have to have unwavering passion and dedication. It’s not for everyone. Especially for entrepreneurs who solely rely on their businesses for their livelihood. This game is a beast…

Seeing someone pursue and establish a successful business can change your life. For some in my generation, we did not get to see this type growth and procession through entrepreneurship. Your dreams were accessed through a 9-5 or climbing the corporate ladder. So I'm grateful to have had the experience of aligning with entrepreneurship even before it was apart of my life.
•
I graduated high school in ‘02. Around the same time Gino opened his shop selling art through a medium that our family would consider to be deviant or taboo. Twenty-two years later Gino’s tattoo shop has not only thrived but expanded. Apprenticing artists and introducing the world to so many new talents and entrepreneurs.

Watching Gino’s process and the many artists in that shop has been so influential and honestly some of the most favorite parts of my life. ❤️

Back to school! 🚌✏️✂️📚📒

How are we doing parents? It’s the first week for me and I’ve had lots of anxiety, melt downs and outbursts. No one talks about how tuff the transition from elementary to middle can be. Then theres the new experience of now traveling to two different schools, if you have multiple. Aquarius are typically very free spirited. Adjusting to structure can be a bumpy journey. Pray for my adaptability.
•
I must say co-parenting this year was… insightful. I didn’t bare the brunt of ANY first day stress and I’m very grateful for that. I got to go to a whole concert the night before with my friends. Last weekend was great lol
•
Hopefully by the end of next week I’ll get a routine and some normalcy to my day. When is the first break again? Labor Day? 😩🥹

A shift happens when you love and accept who you are. You begin to change standards for yourself and create new healthy boundaries to honor yourself. There is something in your aura that activates and shines from within you when you love yourself. Not just saying you love yourself but following through with actions that align… showing up for yourself ❤️ It’s beautiful.

Spirituality has changed my life.

Looking back I always used to pray that 'God would continuously stay in my heart’.

(I imaged him literally in my heart; imagination is key to manifesting. That’s why kids do it so well. But they ask for Roblox money and ps4 games 🙄. I digress).

As a child I can remember saying those words specifically. I used to long to hear his voice of guidance. So, it’s no surprise my journey would lead me here. A spiritual and connected path has always been a part of my life. I have always attracted the same type of energy when it comes to a holistic and spiritual lifestyle. I simply cannot deny the impact Rastafarianism has had in my early life.
•
The people you love and the community you keep impacts your life. I am a believer of many things. I don’t fit safely under any label. As I grow through life I can affirm now that African spirituality has connected dots in ways, as a seeker of truth, I never would have imagined. It’s transformed my life.
•
I looked for spiritual screen tees with a Yorban deity theme and could only find one with a Hispanic interpretation. I was also solely looking on Amazon so there’s that… but I absolutely love this shirt. If you know me in real life you have definitely seen this shirt countless times. 🥴

These jeans are a staple for me. ( by way of I used to go hard in that store 🥴) I’ve had them since 2015. No mater how my weight fluctuates I can still wear them. Lol.

Whenever I’m asked what I love most about photography the answer is always the same, family.

It’s something about seeing two people finding home in each other that is so beautiful and inspiring. Nothing reads people like this camera. Lol. Sometimes when I shoot family sessions I can almost always feel the vibrations in their hearts. And every now and then I get to experience a family truly rooted in love.

We live in a society where most of us enter this part of life already riddled with trauma. Trauma that creates blockages to our true happiness. So, to see a couple navigate this space with a gentle ebb and flow of love and compassion is inspiring.

We are so entitled. Entitled to the energy of others. No one owes you anything. If you value someone, their energy and presence is a fragile gift. And should the time come where your experience with them ends.. release them.
It’s one thing to release someone in the 3d but a whole separate task to release someone spiritually. I see why solidarity is so very important when you’re growing spiritually. Everything is heighten and intensified. It’s supposed to be just you and God in that intensity. Intertwining another persons energy at this time is a huge risk. Something only done with an aligned partner. This was a rookie move on my part. But that’s what life is about.. the journey.

I love a high waist denim skirt. Omg, so 90’s. Seriously, when’s the last time you saw someone rock that? This one is from Top Shop. Absolutely no stretch. Would not recommend lol. The way my weight fluctuates it’s a toss up if it will fit. But for a quick outing (with an empty belly lol) it’ll work. Or just go for one with stretch. 🤷🏾‍♀️

My top is from target.. boys section. I’m not familiar with ac/dc. I just heard Nas mention it a few times and I had a whole creative vision when I picked it up, as if I was Raven. 🔮✨

Intuition ✨
I used to constantly ask God for discernment and for him to speak to me. I used to worry that I couldn’t hear God speaking to me.
Which is valid because before, I didn’t really understand how it worked. See, through my journey of knowing God I had to learn to trust myself. That aided me in strengthening my faith in God, believe it or not.
Faith is more an action than anything else.
If I have certain feelings or thoughts about something, I have to know that this is God speaking to me. If I have faith in the work I have been making to build my relationship with God. Then, I have to trust my instincts because they are based upon this relationship.
Looking at it this way helped me to remove so much separation from me and God.

Moms! How are you doing this summer?! Because I’m not going to lie I’m struggling at times. There’s no camp for us… not a huge support system where I am so it’s like the three musketeers all day. Which is cool but a huge adjustment for me. I had a routine with my 6 hour window of school. I’m having a hard time getting back to caring for myself like I was before. What I miss the most is the gym and just the uninterrupted time to just get through my thoughts sometimes. They are even getting annoyed with each other lol With the high temperatures it was difficult to play outside. Ugh.. just really need to catch a rhythm. It’s such a mix of emotions at times. I adore them and truly live my life for them but man can they work a nerve. Y’all keep me in prayer 🙏🏾

The healing journey is a wild ride.
I have been on this journey of healing for over three years. And it has been the most intense experience ever. Lately I’ve been reflecting on forgiveness. Focusing more on forgiving myself. You see, there comes a point in the process where you feel remorse. Remorse for what you tolerated and for how you treated others. And as you elevate towards your higher self there are many people that will not get to experience you at this new elevated state. You’ll have to mourn this. You’ll have to mourn the way some things went down… You’ll have to mourn apologies and closure you’ll never get.
But I’ve also come to learn that life is about experiences. Most times your experiences with people are not meant to be everlasting but, seasons. Seasons that bring you lessons and keys that elevate you. This clarity helps the process along sometimes.
To anyone I lost in the transition: Since our paths have separated, I hope life has brought growth and clarity to you as well. And even if our paths never cross again blessings to you as you find your higher self.
I loved shooting this look. I have a foot injury so heels are hard for now. Lucky for me I’m into sneakers. 💓👟 I haven’t been able to wear forces since high school. But for some reason it’s a different experience with these socks and this ultra feminine dress. I love it here lol.

Can you tell when God is stretching you? Can you look at challenges as lessons or keys to unlock your higher self?

It’s hard. I know. Sometimes it just takes one simple act.. look up. Then take the deepest breath in.. then let it go. Next thing you know you’ll have one foot in front the other.
I needed to nurture the feminine side of, not only myself but, my wardrobe as well. came really clutch. I have been avoiding purchasing anything for myself. Everything I buy either has a dual function or will eventually be for my kids. But when I saw the ruffles and the price I just had to.

I love when I can wear items in my closet in many ways. I feel better about the investment. This is a beach cover up but I put a unitard under and made it a dress. 🤷🏾‍♀️💃🏾
Side note: After 38 years I’m still getting to know my body. I swear sometimes I look at myself and I don’t recognize the reflection. I’m bulking right now so one day I have a belly and the next I’m super slim 🤷🏾‍♀️ Whatever… it’s a marathon 🏁

Few things I’ve learned on my journey that has impacted my perspective positively:
