Why is chlorine so IMPORTANT in a swimming pool??
I could go on and on about ions, acid, water, and compounds and how it all works collectively to make your pool pretty and bacteria free, but that is BORING…. Chlorine is so important for swimming pools because it helps to decontaminate the water. Chlorine in the form of hypochlorous acid or hypochlorite ions cleanses the water by attacking the lipids in the cell walls of bacteria and other microorganisms. Furthermore, chlorine also attacks structures and enzymes inside bacterial cells, thus making them utterly harmless. Since microorganisms and germs pose a significant threat in swimming pool water, chlorine does an exceptional job of wiping them out and making the water acceptable for human use.
What happens if you don’t have chlorine in a pool?
Bacteria growth: The number one consequence of letting your pool water go untreated is that it will harbor and then grow bacteria. Depending on what grows, this can result in water discoloration (green pool), bad smells, and negative health consequences.
What causes a pool to become contaminated or to have little to no chlorine?
There are several ways in which the water in your swimming pool can become contaminated. The contaminants are primarily environmental or caused by humans; environmental contaminants include windblown dust and debris, rain containing microscopic algae spores, and incoming water from unsanitary sources. If it’s an indoor swimming pool, then the chances of environmental contamination are obviously lower. Water can also be contaminated by humans through sweating, cosmetic substances, sunscreens, saliva, urine, and other undesirable materials.
Is chlorine irritating?
When balanced properly no- however chlorine is a necessary evil. While chlorine undeniably helps in decontaminating the water, the potential drawbacks of treating pool water with chlorine cannot be ignored. It has a very sharp, distinctive smell that is not particularly appealing to many people, and it can also cause itching of the skin, which is thoroughly irritating to swimmers. Hypochlorite ions can also stick to fabrics if not rinsed immediately after leaving the pool. This is the reason why the colors of swimsuits fade rather quickly. At unusually high levels, chlorine can even cause breathing problems and be hazardous to human health. That’s why the balance of chemicals is SO IMPORTANT.

It's important that a regulated amount of chlorine is added to pool water to ensure that its cleansing potential is maximized without compromising human health. However, you should make a point to thank chlorine next time you enjoy that backstroke, because that special little substance is working its heart out while you splash around in the summer sun!

MONSOONS ARE HERE IN AZ HOW CAN YOU HELP MANAGE YOUR POOL??

That is a GREAT question! Often times we hire companies like landscapers, housekeepers, car detailers, and pool maintenance companies so we do not have to do the work of these service providers ourselves.
Although that is so RIGHT, during Monsoons we need your help!! Well to be honest you don't have to help but, it may cost you unnecessary amounts of money, if you don't...

So help us with these 3 tasks between visits especially during MONSOON STORMS:
1. Keep items secure like umbrellas, chairs, cushions, and trash- if they end up in the pool they cause problems and become heavy to get out.
2. Empty skimmer baskets and skim the surface, excessive amounts of debris, can restrict water flow, cause unnecessary pressure and break unwanted and costly items.
3. If your power goes out be sure the pool equipment is ok and you don't need to reset automatic timers or programs!
