Many of you may remember when the museum hosted the blockbuster exhibition "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition" in 2016.

The Peoria Riverfront Museum is excited to share that the Titanic is back! An incredible tin Titanic model was recently installed in "FOLK: Selections from the American Folk Art Museum." The unknown artist who made the model on display was so captivated by the modern marvel that they chose to make their own. The artist individually soldered together bands of tin to construct the hull of the ship and produced 12 miniature lifeboats as well.

With this object, we will continue to tell the story of this iconic shipwreck in an interesting way that will surely spark curiosity and learning among students and visitors.

See it on display at the Peoria Riverfront Museum today: RiverfrontMuseum.org

Merry Christmas from all of us at the Peoria Riverfront Museum!

A message from museum President and CEO John Morris:

"Shortly after I came on board as director of the Peoria Riverfront Museum in 2017, we discussed the idea of having some form of artistic or museum-related Christmas tree in the lobby during the season. That’s when Patti Latch, the volunteer leader of an organization called America’s Gold Star Families stopped in to see me. Her vision was to bring a tree honoring those who had died in military service to the museum, America’s Gold Star Families Fallen Heroes Tree of Honor.

The tradition of the Peoria Riverfront Museum’s "Fallen Heroes Tree of Honor" had begun. Now in its sixth year, this Christmas tree is installed by the families of those who have lost their loved ones to the service of our freedom and features ornaments that hold the photographs of those whom they have lost. The ceremony, where family members place ornaments with photos of their loved ones on the tree, was held last month in the lobby.

The museum building is closed today, but we think of those on the Fallen Heroes Tree's ornaments and remember those whom we are missing from our own lives. We also celebrate both the precious memories and the gratitude that we have for our family and friends both afar and around us on this day."

Merry Christmas and thank you for being a part of our inspired international community.
