Every time you do this, you make a neural connection and will begin doing it more without having to remember or think about it.

Your nervous system sets the tone for your baby’s, so the added bonus of doing this while feeding or rocking to sleep is that it may help your baby eat or sleep more easily.

Roll your shoulders back and down, relax your jaw and tongue, and let your belly be soft with your in and out breath.

Breath by breath, you’ve got this.

Join @___hannahram for Baby & Me yoga at the Washington studio every Tuesday from 9:45-10:45am for more! Open to pre-crawling babies and their caregivers.

It can feel impossible to prioritize yourself in those early postpartum days. But the truth is, what is good for you is good for your baby. Their nervous system is fully relying on your own to learn to regulate. So taking care of yourself is essential! A single minute of stretching, breathing, or a restorative posture is better than nothing. And you can always build on from there. Yoga isn’t just for designated quiet times. Not anymore! Join @___hannahram for Baby & Me Yoga at the Washington studio Tuesdays from 9:45-10:45am to learn more postnatal yoga techniques that are good for you and baby. 💕

Sign up is open for Baby and Me classes at the Washington Studio and space is limited! Visit soulsidehealingarts.com/calendar to register. First class is April 2nd. Classes will be led by Hannah Ramlo, who is trained in prenatal yoga, trauma-informed yoga, and is currently completing a training in postpartum and baby & me yoga. We’ll build community around the joys and challenges of parenting babies. Experience a holistic class blending breath, movement for strength, mobility, & flexibility, and embodiment practices so you continue to show up as your best self for your little one.

A beautiful mindful moment shared by @yogijanie during the weekly Soulside yoga class at Quest Middle School. There are so many ways yoga supports schools’ Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) goals. We love showing up for the kids in our community to experience an embodied self-regulation practice. Sometimes, with crystal bowls in tow.

Song and facilitation in video from @lila.gaia at our most recent song circle. Read those words and read ‘em again. Words are spells. Songs are cycle-breaking and circuit-building. I’ve been thinking a lot about how mindfulness leads to empathy and collective care. What’s the point of a regulated nervous system if we don’t use it to face the hard stuff. I’m not sure we get a choice anyway, so we’d do better to face the hard stuff from an embodied self. Full on participation. ❤️

A deeply immersive and rejuvenating experience that harmonizes and balances the body’s energy centers, known as chakras. During this session, participants are bathed in the ethereal tones and vibrations produced by crystal singing bowls that are each tuned to resonate with a specific chakra. The exquisite and pure tones heard will gently wash over you to help release energy blockages, promote energy flow, and restore equilibrium within your energy system. Throughout the session, you may feel subtle vibrations, both physically and within your inner self, as the crystal bowls’ frequencies interact with your own energy. By the end of the Chakra Restorative Sound Bath, you’ll emerge feeling renewed, balanced, and deeply connected to yourself and grounded in the present moment.  A sound bath is all about deep rest, so come comfy. We have mats, bolsters, and blankets or chairs for you to make yourself as comfortable as possible. You’re also welcome to bring your own mat, blanket, or pillow.  About the Facilitator: Celeste Green (she/her) is a Peoria native and completed the Practitioner of Sound Therapies and Practitioner of Vibrational Therapies certification courses with Meditate: School of Sound Healing in Sarasota, FL in August 2023. Prior to certification, she worked at Methodist Community Behavioral Health and Addiction Recovery Center of Carle Health as a Mental Health Associate for over 3 years with a B.A. in Psychology obtained from Southern Illinois University Carbondale where she facilitated 1:1 therapy and different group therapies with her clients. Celeste felt there was more that could be done to help facilitate healing and thus, began her exploration into holistic healing. She attended a couple of group sound baths and felt a calmness in her soul she never experienced before.

A note on why we operate the way we do when it comes to funding our initiatives. Here’s a bit more detail here about why we opt for donations over grants when we’re able. Hint: we get a lot more done with our time when we’re not constantly having to prove the value of our work in sterilized data points. 🙃 DATA IS IMPORTANT, ya’ll, don’t mishear me. But there is ENOUGH data out there already proving the efficacy of doula care. We just want to work, not be stuck in an endless loop of convincing big funders that the work we do is worthy. Know that we constantly collect our own data in all our programs and continue to improve those efforts. It’s just so much better and more aligned for our small team to be backed by the people who SEE us holding ourselves accountable and know we’re doing good work. ✌🏼 Love you. Thanks for being here.

This class blends the yang elements of vinyasa yoga with the cooling benefits of yin yoga. After warming up, flow through 30 minutes of vinyasa style yoga. Then slow down with 20 minutes of yin poses that stretch deep into the fascia and tissues. Building fire in the first part of class with creative and strong flows helps us settle deeply into the passive postures of yin yoga. Tie it all together with a nice long sivasana. *Some experience of yoga postures is suggested for safe practice in this class. Not recommended for beginners.

Thanks to Nick Goodin of Terravetta for this footage and clip that serves as a primer for what we do and why! Video text: Our mission is to decrease barriers to healing, health and happiness by making wellness practices accessible to all. My name is Hannah Ramlo, I am the founder and Executive Director of Soulside Healing Arts. I am most excited about serving our community with our mission when it comes to breaking down barriers to make yoga a more democratic tool. There are a lot of preconceived notions with yoga that it is all about flexibility or athleticism or it’s only for certain groups of people but at its core, in its tradition, yoga is about the breath, and we all breathe. So if we can help people realize that they can start there, and learn a little more awareness and mindfulness about the breath, we can then teach even more tools so that people can really become their own healers. Footage is from Allison Walsh & Nick Goodin. With support from the Peoria Guild of Black Artists and Janie Backs Soulside class at Wildlife Prairie Park.

Such beauty in shared movement. Dug this up from 2018. The teachers at Soulside learn so much more than yoga from each other. So grateful for this team. 🤍 Flow by @a_stillness

This virtual class was during Well Fest way back in January. We don’t usually see this full of a zoom room but look! Community can absolutely happen online. While our studio capacity remains capped at 7, don’t forget most of our classes are also offered via zoom! You can still pay-as-you-can, practice with your camera on or off, and enjoy a flow in the comfort of your own home. Tonight’s zoom class is Gentle Yoga with @a_stillness at 7pm cst. Such a good one to take from home as you settle in for the evening.

Just a little glimpse into self-guided practice during open studio times. Come move through your own practice at your own pace. Guidance available from @aeronthebrave and @tiki_beee for anyone interested in practicing an Ashtanga yoga sequence. But all movement styles are welcome. OPEN STUDIO 6:30-8am Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Sign up online and pay as you can.
