When the wind blows down branches, I get to go "fishing for camels". They have their toes crossed for more wind tonight!

Getting ready for our first tour of the weekend at Camelot Camels. Going to be toasty out for a few days so most of the animals are in the barn where it is cool.

Who is up for a ride? The mini zebu are wearing saddles now. This is Balthazar with Nick.

A dream come true. I got to sit on one of my camels today. The youngsters still need to get a little older to start getting ridden, but getting them used to a human swinging a leg over and sitting on them is good practice & training. I will be forever grateful for Nick Morrow with Hooves, Humps & Horns for his expertise and innate ability to communicate and work with these incredible animals. Thank you to Carla De Maestri for always being there to help and witness these special moments.

Dubs would like to know if there is a swimsuit calendar for camels. He would like the cover, please.

Just a boy and his zebu. Kinda of like Timmy and Lassie if Lassie had a hump & horns and Timmy was 6ft tall. Ok, nothing like Lassie and Timmy, but still cute.

Balthazar the mini Zebu is in steer school now. He is learning all kinds of cool things. Like being led, tied and not shish-kabobing the two leggers. You know, all that important stuff.

Thank you Nick Morrow for this awesome photo of Phyllis. It captures her personality perfectly.

Had a concerned passerby alert me to an emergency situation in one of my pastures. As I am running to the pasture, she explains that one had a baby and it wasn't moving. She was going to call 911, but (thankfully) knocked on my door instead.
Here are photos of that proud papa Dubs, the gelded male Bactrian camel and his offspring. I am guessing this is a real fur baby?

Adding more Humps to the farm. Welcome to our miniature Zebu and Shortcake is back home too! Shortcake is a mini Park.

Oh Phyllis! Those lips!

06/02/2023

Multi tasking is clearly not my thing. Turned on the hose to fill the camel water and walked away to the next chore. Two hours later I remembered. Thankfully Dubs doesn't hold a grudge! He may even enjoy his lakeside accommodations.

The Story of Us. How Camelot came to be...
One afternoon in March 2018, my husband saw an ad for a camel that was going through an auction. He decided we needed a camel. Personally, the idea had never even entered my mind. I called the auction and found out that the camel had a congenital defect in his front legs and would never be rideable. He was placed in the auction for the exotic meat trade. Before I knew what was happening, we were the proud owners of a crippled two year old Bactrian camel halfway across the country.
The day we bid on the camel my husband, Glen Ghilotti, left on a road trip to pick up something else for the farm. Dubs the camel arrived home. My husband never did. He died suddenly and unexpectedly of a massive heart attack on his trip. I focused my grief and vowed to do whatever was necessary to get our camel healthy, comfortable and give him the best quality of life possible.
When Dubs arrived he could barely stand. He was covered in bed sores from being down long periods of time. My fabulous vet started treating him and that combined with a good diet & supplements, Dubs began to thrive. Soon he was able to stand for longer periods of time and would actually run & play occasionally. After a year, he was thriving.
When the opportunity arrived to add two additional camels, I jumped at the chance. Two 3 week old bottle baby Bactrian camels joined the family in 2021. Phyllis and Milo. Dubs was excited to have his own herd.
The trio will continue to bring me and the community much joy through our public outings, farm tours and other developing opportunities to share the wonderful attributes that these amazing animals offer.
