Today, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. will celebrate its 113th anniversary!
Originally founded as Kappa Alpha Nu on the campus of Indiana University on January 5, 1911, upon Christian principles and the central purpose of achievement.
Today, we pay homage to our ten revered Founders: Elder W. Diggs, Byron K. Armstrong, John M. Lee, Guy L. Grant, Ezra D. Alexander, Marcus P. Blakemore, Edward G. Irvin, George W. Edmonds, Henry T.
Asher, and Paul W. Caine.
On this momentous occasion, our Fraternity reflects on our past that has defined and shaped us as we look toward our future.

This past weekend the Brothers of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter ♦️hosted Southern Province Polemarch Jason Jones, Esq.
The chapter held a meeting and conducted business this past Saturday, December 9, 2023. Our Southern Province Polemarch Jason Jones, Esq. visited the island to meet with the chapter, to fellowship, and also to experience our Crucian hospitality.

St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. rolled out the red carpet this morning for the students of the Juanita Gardine Elementary School! 📚📓
The Brothers wanted to get together as a fraternity, and welcome our kids back to school. We thought it was very important to see them be encouraged, bring some excitement, and let them know that we want them to be the best they can be! 👌🏾♦️
CHRISTIANSTED, ST. CROIX, VI – The St. Croix U.S. Virgin Islands Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. welcomed students of the Juanita Gardine Elementary School "Back-to-School" this morning! 📚📓
Students were greeted by members of the fraternity with cheers and words of encouragement as they walked a red carpet befitting royalty. While the students at Juanita Gardine had a red carpet experience, there were also members of the fraternity at the St. Croix Educational Complex (SCEC) to welcome the high school students to their first day of classes👌🏾♦️

The raffle prize was a $500 gift certificate to Office Max. Thank you to the entire St. Croix community and abroad for supporting this effort!
This past weekend the Brothers of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter ♦️participated and won the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Juice Wars 2023!
The community spoke and chose Phi Beta Sigma for the People’s Choice Award.
But BIG Kongrats to the St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter who came out on top by winning the top prize!

Robert Sengstacke Abbott (December 24, 1870 – February 29, 1940)
Robert Sengstacke Abbott was born on December 24, 1870 to formerly enslaved parents in St. Simons, Georgia. He was an American lawyer, newspaper publisher and editor. He founded The Chicago Defender in 1905, which grew to have the highest circulation of any black-owned newspaper in the country.
Robert Sengstacke Abbott attended Hampton, Institute in Virginia and graduated from then Kent Law School n 1899. The Chicago Defender focused on attacking racial injustice, specifically lynching in the south. The “Defender” never the words “Negro” or “black” in its pages. He was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi through the fraternity’s Chicago (IL) Alumni chapter.
The St. Croix Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. held a successful Dental Kit Giveaway initiative on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
In recognition of February as National Children’s Dental Health Month, free dental kits were given to kids and parents in an effort to encourage and promote healthy dental hygiene for their children. We would also like to thank Frederiksted Health Care Inc. for their support and contribution for this event.
This month the Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter ♦️ recognize National Children's Dental Health Month. We are giving away FREE dental kits for kids in the St. Croix community! We will be in front of Banco Popular in the Sunny Isles Shopping Center from 10:00am to 12:00pm this Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Thomas Moorehead (April 21, 1944– Present)
Thomas Moorehead was an auto sales entrepreneur and real estate developer who has received many awards for his work and service in the auto industry.
Mr. Moorehead was born in Monroe, Louisiana and graduated with honors, from the segregated Carroll high school in 1962. He also earned his B.A. degree in 1966 from the Grambling State University in Business Administration.
Moorehead opened his first dealership, Moorehead Sentry Buick/Isuzu in 1987 in Omaha, Nebraska, and sold it in 1995 upon opening Moorehead Buick/GMC Trucks in Decatur, Illinois. In 1998, Moorehead was awarded one of the three sites for a new BMW dealership in Sterling, Virginia by the National Association of Minority Auto Dealers (NAMAD).
He became the first African American owner of the Marriott Residence Inn at the National Harbor Resort and Convention Center in Maryland. In 2013, Moorehead became the first African American awarded a full-service Rolls Royce franchise with the opening of Rolls Royce Motorcars of Sterling. He then purchased Harley-Davidson of Washington D.C. in Fort Washington, Maryland in 2014; and, in 2016, he became the first African American Lamborghini and McLaren dealer. Moorehead has received many awards in the auto industry and served numerous boards. He has had many accomplishments in his lifetime and is a great role model today.

Samuel Greenlee (July 13, 1930 – May 19, 2014) (Beta Omicron 1950)
Samuel Greenlee was an influential novelist, poet, screenwriter, journalist, teacher, and talk show host.
In 1948 he won a track scholarship to the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1952 with a BS degree in Political Science. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, earning the rank of first lieutenant, and from 1954 to 1957 did graduate studies in international relations at the University of Chicago.
In 1957, he began a seven-year career with the United States Information Agency as a Foreign Services Officer, serving in Iraq, East Pakistan, Indonesia, and Greece, and in 1958, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Award for bravery during the Baghdad revolution.
Greenlee's first and most well-known novel, The Spook Who Sat by the Door, was published in 1968. This was the story of a black man who is recruited as a CIA agent and having mastered the skills of a spy then uses them to lead a black guerrilla movement in the US. Rejected by many mainstream publishers on both sides of the Atlantic, the novel was eventually published in London in March 1969 by Allison and Busby.
This prize-winning novel quickly became an underground favorite for its fictionalization of an urban-based war for African American liberation.

George Taliaferro (January 8, 1927 – October 8, 2018)
George Taliaferro, BS’51, was a professional American football player, who was the first African American to be drafted by the National Football League.
Mr. Taliaferro was born in Gates, Tennessee where he graduated from the Gary Roosevelt highschool. Taliaferro then moved on to the Indiana University, where he played for the undefeated Hoosiers from 1945-1948 and earned his Bachelors in Physical Education.
Taliaferro joined the professional ranks of football in 1949 and succeeded as he became a three time NFL pro bowl selection. Apart from shining on the football field, he also shined in the academic field as well. Taliaferro earned his Master’s degree from the Howard University in 1962, where he then proceeded to teach at the Maryland State University and eventually became the Dean of students at the Morgan State University. Taliaferro had a distinctive career in social work, while he worked diligently to fight for the rights of minorities against discrimination. George Taliaferro was a dedicated leader and a gifted football player whom we will always remember as the trend setter who stood out.

Reginald F. Lewis (December 7, 1942 – January 19, 1993)
Reginald F. Lewis was a businessman who was the richest African American man in the 1980s.
He graduated with a degree in economics in 1965 from Virginia State University and joined the Alpha Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi while an undergraduate student, before entering Harvard Law School. He then joined the New York law firm of Paul Weiss Rifkin Wharton & Garrison and just a few years later, opened his own law firm, Lewis & Clarkson, which specialized in venture capital projects. With $1 million he had saved as a corporate lawyer, he led a $23 million buyout of the small dress-pattern maker. Four years later, he restored the ailing company to financial health.
Reginald F. Lewis was a business pioneer, philanthropist, and leader of the global food company TLC Beatrice International. Lewis was the first African American ever to close an overseas billion-dollar leveraged buyout deal. He acquired an unprecedented global conglomerate of 64 companies in 31 countries and paved the way for future entrepreneurs and black leaders through his life’s work
The Brothers of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter ♦️ along with members of the Divine 9 participated in the Annual Martin Luther King Jr. march on Monday, January 16, 2023 in Frederiksted, St. Croix.
The Brothers of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter ♦️ alongside other NUPES joined Brother Governor Albert A. Bryan, Jr. at his post inaugural ball in St. Croix in celebration of his reelection as the ninth elected governor of the US Virgin Islands.

This past weekend the Brothers of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter ♦️ held a chapter retreat at the Accelerate VI Coworking Space.
This retreat was intended to be an interactive session for Brothers to fellowship and bond with each other. Brothers also created a calendar for the upcoming fraternal year, participated in team building exercises, discussed guide right initiatives, set community outreach initiatives, developed a strategic chapter plan for achievement, redevelop by-laws, prepare for spring intake, and more.
This week the Brothers of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter ♦️ participated in American Education Week which celebrates our public school community. This week honors the educators and staff who help students of all ages and backgrounds reach their full potential.
The Brothers visited Eulalie R. Rivera K-8, John H. Woodson Jr. High, and Juanita Gardine K-8. They shared information on healthy eating habits, college life, their career paths and inspired the students to achieve in every field of human endeavor.
The St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.♦️, The Office of Gun Violence Prevention, Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T), and the Women's Coalition of St. Croix organized and participated in the “Handbags of Hope Across America” initiative.
Items were collected to be donated to the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix for victims of domestic violence.
The Brothers of the St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. gathered to conduct the Elegant Evening Raffle Drawing.👌🏽

St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. this past weekend completed Phase 1 of our community service initiative at the Department of Human Services Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Foster care and Adoption Unit. In collaboration with the Department of Human Services, the brothers are volunteering and contributing to some much needed maintenance to the facility.
St. Croix USVI Alumni Chapter Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. seen in front of Fort Frederik having completed the 22nd Annual Freedom Walk (15.6 miles) held on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands where participants walked from Fort Christianvaern in Christiansted to Fort Frederik in Frederiksted.
This walk is in observance of the July 3, 1848 revolt and commemorates the 174th anniversary of Emancipation Day and celebrates the enslaved Africans who marched to Frederiksted and demanded freedom on the morning of July 3, 1848, in what is now called Buddhoe Park. The historic revolt, led by molasses boiler Moses “General Buddhoe” Gottlieb won freedom for slaves throughout the Danish West Indies almost 15 years before Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation in the United States.
