GreenTec Restoration was brought in to a large industrial printing press fire a few weeks ago. Our team set up property containment's and negative air pressure and dry ice blasted the entire affected printing press. Another rainy work week ahead of us!
GreenTec Restoration was recently called to assist with a large loss where a sprinkler head had burst. This was a beautiful home located in Lower Merion where GreenTec Restoration utilized a lot of our structural drying methods to minimize on the removal work. We were able to dry all of the hardwoods floors in place with our floor mat system.

We are also currently seeking local plumbers. GreenTec Restoration offers a referral program for any losses referred to us by family, friends and plumbers.

Contents Restoration: what is it?

Your property is not the only thing affected after a disaster. Your contents may have suffered damage as well. It is important to begin contents restoration immediately! A professional will clean and treat any contents that are salvageable with specialized equipment and skill. Unfortunately, not everything can be restored. If the damage to an item is too severe and unable to return to pre-loss condition, it will be inventoried as non-restorable. All salvageable items will be carefully packed and placed into our storage until your property restoration is complete.

What might be restored after damage? *Remember not everything is salvageable:

Is your home covered for emergencies?

Home insurance is something you hope you never need to use. Should that day come, it is important that it properly covers your needs. This is especially true for emergency home repairs. Repairing your home after an emergency isn’t something you should delay.

Insurance coverage will help provide the funds needed to get repairs started, IF the damage is covered by your policy. While no policy is going to cover every potential situation, it is a good idea to know what IS and IS NOT covered by your policy before an emergency happens. Policies can vary quite a bit, so it's best to call your insurance company to find out what coverage you have and specifically for what types of emergencies.

Situations typically covered under home insurance policies include:

-Weather Damage (outside of flooding)
-Water Damage (this is highly situational, ask your insurance company to specify what types of water damage is covered)
-Fire & Smoke Damage
-Damage caused by Theft or Vandalism
-Damage caused by Explosions
-Damage caused by Vehicles

It is important to know what your policy won’t cover. Some natural disasters may not be covered, but since we are seeing more and more natural disasters in our area, it may be worth it to add additional coverage to your policy if it is offered. Talk to your insurance company about this.

If your home has sustained an emergency situation, call us. We will help guide you through the process.

❗️Asbestos❗️

Asbestos is more common in older facilities and is often found in older building materials, such as:

1.) Ceiling tiles
2.) Popcorn roof
3.) Shingles & roof
4.) Dry wall or sealant
5.) Tile & floor glue
6.) Insulation of pipes, stoves, or attic

Water leakage or fire damage may affect asbestos-containing materials and pose serious health risks. Exposure to asbestos has been linked to serious diseases such as mesothelioma and lung cancer and it's estimated that several thousands of people die annually from asbestos-related diseases worldwide.

A trained professional should be hired to properly and safely remove all asbestos from your property.

What does water restoration mean?

Water restoration is a course of action that deals with the aftermath of a water emergency. Water extraction, structural drying, cleanup, and sanitizing are the critical first steps.

Mitigation. Remediation. Restoration. What do these terms mean?

Mitigation - Water damage mitigation is an emergency response focused on water extraction and water damage repairs.

Remediation - Water damage remediation removes residual water, and covers final cleaning, sanitizing, mold removal, and air purification.

Restoration - Water restoration is the final phase. Replacement of torn-out drywall, repair damaged floors, and fix water-damaged ceilings. Contents that are salvageable are cleaned and restored. The finished process returns your property to its pre-loss condition.

Warmer weather is on the way! This means more humidity in our homes. Mold isn't just a problem after a water leak or flood, the warmer months pose concerns with mold as well!

Molds are usually not a problem indoors, unless mold spores land on a wet or damp spot and begin growing. Molds have the potential to cause health problems such as irritants, allergic reactions, asthma, other respiratory complaints, and in some cases, potentially toxic substances (mycotoxins). To control indoor mold growth, you need to control moisture. Here are a few tips:

~Reduce indoor humidity (to 30-50%) to decrease mold growth by venting bathrooms, dryers, and other moisture-generating sources to the outside; using air conditioners and de-humidifiers to increase ventilation; and using exhaust fans whenever cooking, dishwashing, and cleaning.
~Reduce the potential for condensation on cold surfaces (i.e., windows, piping, exterior walls, roof, or floors) by adding insulation.
~Add mold inhibitors to paints before painting. You can buy mold inhibitors at paint and home improvement stores.
~If you have a leak or other water problem, make sure to get it fixed asap to prevent mold growth.

Remember, molds can be found almost anywhere and can get in your home through open doors, windows, vents, and heating/air conditioning systems. Mold in the air outside can also be brought indoors on clothing, shoes, bags, and even pets. Mold can grow on nearly any substance, as long as moisture is present. There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, wallpaper, insulation, carpet, fabric, upholstery, foods, dust, and more.

Call us if you have any water damages in your home or property, or if you suspect you may have mold. We will come out to assess everything and work to get your home or property back to normal. Don't forget to mention you saw us on FB! (215) 485-5920.

We addressed the first 2 typical types of smoke damage yesterday. Today we will address the remaining 3.

3. Fuel/Oil Smoke Damage - This is also called petroleum residue. These fires and rare in homes and businesses unless petroleum products are present. It leaves behind a strong and harsh odor and becomes difficult to remove and clean since the residue left by petroleum smoke is sticky and dense.

4. Protein Smoke Damage - This type of smoke occurs during a low-heat fire when organic matter evaporates. This mainly occurs when cooking mishaps happen. Protein smoke is nearly invisible and very greasy; it is the ultimate hot mess. It leaves a strong, burnt food odor which can permeate an entire home, and leaves smoke residue on contents and surfaces that can discolor painted, varnished, or other finished surfaces.

5. Wet Smoke Damage - This is caused from smoldering, low-heat fires. When rubber and plastic burn, they produce a sticky residue. This type of fire produces less flames but considerably thicker, black smoke. It leaves behind an intense odor and a dense, sticky residue that smears. This makes it difficult to clean without specialized equipment.

It is easier to prevent fire damage than containing or restoring the damage post occurrence. It's best to think ahead and take the necessary steps to prevent fires.

If your property has suffered fire damage, please call us. Our trained professionals will ensure that the residue left behind is properly identified and treated in the best possible manner. We are here for you 24/7/365! (215) 485-5920

Yesterday we mentioned what the 5 typical types of smoke damage are. Today we will address the first 2 types of smoke damage.

1. Complex Fire Smoke Damage - This is a greasy yellow residue along with synthetic smoke odors on contents and surfaces from the burning of multiple natural and synthetic household items.

2. Dry Smoke Damage - This is the result of a fast-burning, high-temperature fire that is usually fueled by paper or wood. This dry smoke from natural fires can enter cracks or porous materials in surfaces and pe*****te structures from outside. This type of smoke residue is often dry and powdery white.

In addition to the damage and odors, fire and smoke can also leave behind residues that can pose serious health risks. Materials can release toxic chemicals when burned, and those chemicals can contaminate surrounding materials. Some of these materials are:

-Carpets
-Upholstery
-Wool
-Insulation
-Wood products
-Foams
-Plastics
-Any materials that contain asbestos

Call us if you have suffered damage from a fire! (215) 485-5920

Yesterday we talked about the damages a fire can leave behind and how important it is to immediately hire a professional to clean up the smoke and other possible toxins left behind. There are typically 5 different types of smoke damage, they are...

1. Complex Fire Smoke Damage
2. Dry Smoke Damage
3. Fuel/Oil Smoke Damage
4. Protein Smoke Damage
5. Wet Smoke Damage

Proper restoration, by a professional, is required to ensure there are no chemicals left behind that may cause health risks such as skin and eye irritation, breathing and other respiratory complications like bronchitis or asthma, cancer, stroke, heart attacks, and lifelong consequences for infants.
Tomorrow we will break down the first 2 types of smoke damage, so stay tuned!

Damage left behind after a fire can be pretty significant! Smoke and ash not only cause significant damage to the surrounding area of where a fire happened but can continue to cause corrosion to materials if not addressed. Damages can include discoloration, odors, tarnished metal, and etching in glass. Toxins that may be left behind can cause health problems, so it is important to address these issues as soon as possibly safe after a fire. Our goal is to remove any evidence there was ever smoke in the first place and to return your property to the state in which it was before the damage occurred.
*Tomorrow we will talk about the different types of smoke damage.
