MAST CELL TUMORS (MCT) are the most
common skin tumor in dogs.

👀 MCT can look like anything, be soft or firm , & occur anywhere on the body.

💉A sample must be taken via an aspirate to make a diagnosis. You can’t tell what it is by look or feel.

💜 Mast cells are characterized by bright pink-purple granules under the microscope.

👎🏻 MCT can spread so tests are usually done to rule it out. The most important test is to check the local lymph node.

🔪 Surgery to remove the MCT mass is the best option for treatment. Some tumors are large in size or located a tricky spot and removal may not be possible.

💊 Follow up with chemotherapy is recommended afterwards in some cases. Including high grade MCT or ones that have spread.

If your pet has a MCT schedule a consult today to get more information!

I had the pleasure of treating this handsome, sweet dog for 2 different types cancers. His journey was over a year and a half and he lived life to the fullest. Dogs on chemo should have an amazing life with excellent quality, which is exactly what we want. 💙

✨Kitty magic✨
Cats are something special. They’re feisty & tough and tolerate chemo like champs. This cat was diagnosed with lymphoma in its mouth (which is a very unusual diagnosis for an oral mass in a cat). It looked incredible after 1 dose of chemo!

Bone cancer in dogs usually affects large breed dogs (Dobermans, Rottweilers, Great Danes, etc). Osteosarcoma is more common in males and can affect young or older dogs.

The symptoms include lameness and swelling. If lameness and pain becomes suddenly worse, I always check for a fracture of the bone with an X-ray.

Don’t you just want to squish his belly? 😸🧡

I don’t treat as many cats as dogs, but they get cancer too. The most common cancer in cats is lymphoma. Lymphoma commonly involves their intestinal tract so any new symptoms like vomiting or weight loss should be checked by a veterinarian.

Say cheese! This dog has to to have a portion of her jaw bone removed to treat a tumor of the mouth. Most pet owners find the idea of this really scary but she’s doing great and doesn’t even notice there’s a piece missing! 🧀😄🐶

My patients leave a lasting mark on my heart. This is Oreo - I treated him circa 2005 and I'll always remember him with a big smile on my face!

This $10 tool is essential for my everyday practice. It's a caliper I use to measure tumors so that I can keep track of the size to determine if treatment is working.

Large breed dogs are at risk for bone cancer. This lovely lady is being treated monthly with a bone strengthening infusion that also offers pain relief called zoledronate. She's going strong 9 months after her diagnosis!
