Please join us at 10am on October 29th in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and Georgia for some good old fashion trash cleanup. We will be supplying SW Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves, Gnosko Bio shirts and leaping fox hydro flasks, as well as providing lunch.

We've dedicated 3 hours of trash cleanup for every 5 cases of SW EcoTek gloves purchased. We have been and will continue to fulfill our promise until the end of the calendar year, for these gloves biodegrade in 2.5 years when reacting with microbes in the landfill, vs anywhere from 500 to 10,000 for your standard Nitrile glove. The impact is immense, and we are adding to our green initiatives by going the extra mile to help clean up our communities.

🧐 Ever wonder about the “negative” or “positive” part of your blood type?

🩸On the surface of red blood cells, there is either a presence (+) or absence (-) of a protein called Rhesus (Rh) factor. Most people in the world are Rh positive (~92%). The factor is inheritable from the mother or father.

🤱 What does this have to do with pregnancy? Problems can occur if there’s Rh incompatibility - mom is Rh negative and baby is Rh positive. While mom and baby do not normally share blood, there may be events (labor, birth, certain tests, trauma, etc.) where this becomes possible and the baby’s blood can get into mom’s system. Mom will recognize the baby’s blood as foreign to her body and will make antibodies against the Rh factor. This ultimately destroys the baby’s red blood cells, resulting in conditions such as hemolytic anemia and jaundice. While Rh incompatibility isn’t a huge concern during the first pregnancy, it poses a greater issue for future Rh+ pregnancies from prior exposure and the larger antibody generation.

🔬 A simple blood test screening early in pregnancy will determine blood type and Rh status to help determine appropriate treatment. Rh immunoglobulin (also known as Rhogam) can be given via an injection during pregnancy or after delivery to prevent the immune response of antibody generation. This injection is only good for that pregnancy/delivery and subsequent ones will require a repeat dose.

😷 The circulation of more transmissible COVID variants has revived the good old mask discussion. These variants are more transmissible by at least 50% due to their mutations. They appear to be better able to attach and infect cells, which means there’s an increased likelihood of spread from exposure. The B117 variant will even cause Germany to enter a stricter lockdown over Easter. This variant is also currently spreading across the U.S. and was first detected in Colorado in December. Thus, masks are very much still important to our world and our everyday lives. So swipe through for a refresher!
