Inspiring Change: Southern Flames BBQ and Rev. J. Henry Buck Jr.
The national unemployment rate is 3.7%. In Philadelphia the unemployment rate for troubled teens is 25%, for disabled veterans it's 17%, and for citizens recently returned from incarceration it's 30%. These high unemployment rates have a number of negative consequences, including poverty, crime, and social isolation.
One Philadelphian who is working to address these issues is Rev. J. Henry Buck Jr., a member of the African American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) and the pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Germantown. Rev. Buck is the founder of Southern Flames BBQ, a restaurant that has a unique business model: it hires the most vulnerable populations in Philadelphia, including troubled teens, disabled veterans, and citizens recently returned from incarceration.
Rev. Buck's remarkable journey is an inspiration to us all. We invite you to read his compelling story on the AACC website, where we shine the Comcast Entrepreneur Spotlight on this extraordinary individual who is reshaping our community.
