Dear Clients,
I regret to inform but Quantum Fox Photography is completely closing at the end of June.

Due to financial and economic hardships impacting the photography trade these past few years we have unfortunately decided not to renew the website (www.QuantumFoxPhoto.com ), which will come down the beginning of July. This was a very hard decision for us as I have greatly enjoyed my time as a photographer and watching the children grow up through the years of covering the dances, and client sessions. If you are interested in purchasing portraits from a past session, now is your last chance.

To place an order please email [email protected]

Anyone who would like to purchase a print or item (such as acrylics and keychains) to be delivered to your school may do so until Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, when I will be ordering the last school photo order of the year, prints will be delivered the following week. After that date, I will only be offering digital downloads ($30 each), which will be available until Sunday, June 30th, 2024. If you miss the March cutoff date, you may still purchase 8x10” and 5x7” prints directly from the website until June 30th. (Though prints are $5 more than if you order from me directly, and there is a shipping fee.)

Wishing you all the best,
~Maura~

~~~BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!~~~
I QUIT!
All 2 of my followers are probably looking at this very confused, so let me explain. (Thank you to the few people who have liked my posts when you see them this past year, I really appreciate you.)
It has been playing in my mind for quite a while now that I no longer find joy in doing photography, I have lost my passion and it has become just another job that I go through the motions for. I dread the idea of having to figure out how to schedule holiday sessions around an already booked solid schedule from my family's activities, and knowing that each session will be hours of editing later. I also can find little enjoyment in the rat race to the bottom when who a client books is now based on who they can book that will give them the most digital images for the cheapest price, and why would they hire someone with experience when anyone with a nice camera (or even a good camera phone) is good enough? Things have changed so much from when I went to college for photography, it's become an instant gratification generation, clients want to see their images 10 minutes after the session (like how it works on a phone) and after they've seen them, they're perfectly happy with ordering very little or nothing at all. It becomes more work than pay, if I was still doing this to pay bills I would be in big trouble.
I spent the last 15 years putting so much time and effort into photography, I made fancy price lists and client guides, I did free sessions to have new portfolio images to post on ads, and for all the work, I never had any clients to show for it because there was always someone cheaper, or they already knew someone who was a "photographer". I got to a point where anytime someone would ask what I did I would cringe because no one takes photographers seriously anymore, and being a photographer with kids instantly turns you into a dreaded "Mom-tog" (a mom who got a nice camera to take pictures of her kids, then thinks after a few people compliment her pictures that she can charge for it and be a professional photographer, this usually results in charging dirt cheap prices and burning out within 2 years, closing up shop. But with so many people doing this, it has greatly affected the photography industry and made clients come to expect a huge number of digitals for dirt cheap, because that's what they could get from mom-togs. Even though it was in no way a sustainable business practice, I have lost potential clients because I was charging a price to cover my costs, but they wanted the same price they got from So and So's Photography, which when asked why they weren't going to that photographer I was told they were no longer in business. Oh wow.. you don't say. Maybe because they couldn't afford to stay in business with those prices.. 🀦* sigh* ).
Being a mom and also a photographer makes you even less respected than just being a photographer nowadays, if you can believe that. I have had maybe 1-2 paying clients a YEAR for the past few years, even before covid shut things down because of the pricing, and not wanting to just give people 500 unedited digitals, I would like people to actually hang their photos up and enjoy them, a crazy concept I know. Artists already suffer with self doubt and not feeling good enough, but when you put so much effort in for so many years, and never get anything back, it can make you feel worthless and suck the life out of you.
A few years ago I overheard the end of a conversation between my mom and husband when I was returning from being out of the room, I hadn't been bringing my camera to family events that year, the first time in years, and my mom was worried. My husband said I had lost my passion for it, as I returned to the room they quickly changed the subject. I didn't realize it then, but I do now that the passion for doing photography was gone, and years later it still hasn't returned. I now understand burnout. I do still enjoy the occasional closeup of a flower I grew, or a few pictures of my own kids in a holiday setup, but I cannot get excited for regular client sessions, and after feeling this way as I prepared for a recent session, and not wanting to reply as a relative told me about a group of people looking for a holiday photographer on a Facebook group, it became apparent that it's time to just stop clinging to photography to scratch an itch. I have actually found so many other ways this past year to scratch the itches to work on paperwork and make photoshop ads by joining my kids cub scout pack as a committee member, and my creative outlet has become baking sourdough bread and making crafts. I remember a quote from an organizer who was telling people several yrs ago as they cleaned their homes that you should remove things from your life that don't bring you joy, so I think it's time to start doing that with photography.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
😍WHAT HAVE I DISCOVERED BRINGS ME JOY INSTEAD? 😍
~Baking sourdough and making things like tie dye shirts and crocheted items (you can follow my creative journey or order items at https://www.facebook.com/CraftsByMaura )

~Working with my dog (we just started Rally classes 2 weeks ago, we're having a lot of fun with the training)

~ Being a committee member for our cub scouts pack, I don't think I have an official job title anymore, they just call me a jack of all trades for the pack haha. I have come to find that I enjoy office work in the sense of organizing calendars, writing up paperwork, creating flyers on photoshop, etc.

~Doing photo setups for my own kids for holidays (I just got a kid saddle at the beginning of the summer and really want to do a fall setup for my 1.5 yr old if I can find a good log to sit it on)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR QUANTUM FOX PHOTOGRAPHY?
~ I will still be doing the school parent-student dances each year, when covid shut things down and I couldn't do it for a few years, I did really miss it, and was so excited to get back to it when things started to return to normal. The themed setups are so much fun for me, and for my smaller school I like getting to see how the kids change each year, some of the kids I've been photographing since Pre-K, my first year working with the school, and just got to see a few of those kids in 8th grade this year. It was actually sad for me to know it was my last year with them, so I made them a special collage as a thank you for sticking with me all that time.
~ Effective immediately, I will not be taking on new clients, but may do the occasional session for my past clients that I've enjoyed working with.
~This means I will be slowly updating the website to be only the dances and removing the regular session information and portfolio. If you have had a regular session with us in the past and would like to purchase images/prints, please contact me before Oct 31st as I will start purging old sessions from the website in November.
So that's it then, I have spent all morning trying to figure out how to write this, but I think this sums it up pretty well. If you have any questions you can comment below, or email me directly at [email protected]
Mom's Favorite 5 from Jackson's 9 Month, 4th of July themed session. The top middle is by far my favorite and I busted out laughing when I was first going through the images and saw that one, then shared it with mom who also thought it was hilarious, of course she had to pick it!
(This was delayed on posting because the little guy has some stuff going on right now, so mom only recently had a chance to pick her favs. )
Today I wanted to share a funny blooper story.
While I was taking my kids Easter photos I did everyone together first, then was doing individuals of my 2 older kids. I had used a mini bunny plush to get everyone to look at my camera by holding it up and also sitting it on my camera lens, making it dance and fall over and the typical nonsense to get kids attention and to smile.
While it was my oldest son's turn, my little guy runs over and grabs the bunny off the floor next to me and starts holding it up to look at like I did, then because his brother was still looking at me instead of him, he runs over (with his pants falling off) and starts bopping his big brother on the head with the bunny while baby talking him. haha
I wanted to share one more cutie with this year's spring/Easter setup.
