the back of Twist No.1 is my current favorite look. I’m in the middle of 5 days of designing and shooting photos but got some much needed sleep last night so i’m ready to go again today. Each day i’m finding new angles for the vases, watching as my freelance gang comes over and plays with them and makes their own discoveries. As hard and scary as all this has been, I’m excited for them to head out into the world. Email subscribers will get the sale date end of the week so you should sign up. ⬆️

the colocasia leaves lasted a week in plain water, the houseplants better watch out ✂️

Do you want to see one of my floral designs, in one of my new vases photographed in your HOME? Do you live within 1 hour of Philly? If so, DM me photos of where you think flowers would look amazing in your place and I may come over with the flowers and take some pics!

I love designing arrangements for specific interiors, I love to see the character of the homeowner shine through in their personal decor choices. As much as I have my own style as a designer, I love channeling different styles. And I believe my vases will look great in all sorts of home decor styles.

Photos will be taken in the first 2 weeks of August, specific dates will be coordinated individually. While I can’t leave these first vases as a gift, I will leave you an abundance of flowers selected for your home, arranged in your vase or I’ll bring some options to pick from.

And as always, click the link in bio to sign up for the email list which is where updates and the first sale date will be announced!

5 years since I started gardening with enthusiasm, 4 since 2020 made it my full time job for 2 years

Some garden highlights this week:
Manhattan-Oriental Poppy
Chasing Rainbows-Tall Bearded Iris
Cherry Fudge-Tall Bearded Iris
Luau Punch-Tall Bearded Iris
Danse de Feu- Intersectional Peony
Lion’s Fairy Tale- Rose
Ash Wednesday- Old fashioned climbing rose-only blooms once per season but it’s gorgeous, there are 2 plants-one on each side of the trellis
Cinderella’s Secret- Tall Bearded Iris
Gotham (front) Unknown (back)-Tall Bearded Iris
Sergey- Tall Bearded Iris

the iris did not cooperate when i attempted to drop them in the Twist vase but they sure are beautiful anyway. i’m using this season to try to identify all my iris that are missing tags, i know the largest blooms in here are “Good Morning Beautiful” but still need to figure out that smaller Intermediate one. In other news, so many pieces are falling into place with the vases, i’ll be able to retire the 3d printed prototypes for the real porcelain production pieces any day now! and stay tuned for a peek at the boxes next week!

the heat really messed with the peony show so my designing has been feeling frantic. made these 2 for who has another amazing MCM listing this week

Photos from Sullivan Owen's post 02/05/2024

it’s been a print explosion with the heat this week, I’m trying to design with every peony I can-it’s feeling like a race against the weather each day. This is the 2nd and 3rd year for many of these plants and they have been worth the wait. If you want to know about a specific variety-ask away!

first tree peony of the season, Leda from Solaris Farms and a whole lot of standard dwarf bearded iris that bloomed this week.

a rare March bridal bouquet, from 2017. March has unpredictable weather so I’ve only ever done a handful of March weddings in my 12 years of designing but the flowers can be equally unpredictable, I remember now delightful finding blossoms on the camellia foliage was and how the spirea, pieris and astilbe looked with the gardenia was a beautiful contrast of airy and graphic.

Moody March design from back in 2016, take all the pastels of Easter and give them Seasonal Affective Disorder by pairing them with barely budded branches and agonis foliage.

The last Valentine’s Day I worked as a retail florist was in 2019, I opened my floral studio 2/4/2011 and learned pretty quickly that this was not an easy holiday to get right, it was a ton of work for not a whole lot of money. I know what you’re thinking, flowers are SO expensive for Valentine’s Day, my florist must be buying a boat with all these profits. Uh uh.

I’m not going to get into all the reasons why this day is hard for all the service businesses, I’ll just say that while I never particularly made any money from the day, I do miss interacting with my regular clients on their orders and I do miss the satisfaction of closing the cooler door on neat rows of gorgeous designs. It was never an easy week but by far the hardest was the blizzard on 2/12 in 2014 where I actually slept at the studio so I could be at work on 2/13.

My 2020 ornament design definitely was a big hit in the neighborhood

Photos from Sullivan Owen's post 20/12/2022

in 2019 I tried the ornaments at the front door which does not face the street so my neighbors were concerned I moved or something

Photos from Sullivan Owen's post 18/12/2022

Waaay back in 2013 we had our first winter in this house and I had a holiday decorating photo shoot since the house was still pretty empty. was kind enough to bring a ton of stuff and the back porch has never looked cozier. 📷 by

this year for Christmas I’m giving myself the gift of self care and choosing to skip the ornament project this year. Unfortunately due to some missing parts and hardware my greenhouse is still very much in progress and the weather hasn’t been helping. I started stringing the ornaments with every intention of doing the design I planned but I have so many things to finish in the garden before the ground freezes that I just can’t get it all done. I’m sad about it but also know it’s the best choice I can make for this year. Three years of this garden renovation have been rewarding and exhausting and believe me I know these are nice problems to have! So this year will be all about designs from Christmas Past starting with 2021 pictured here

Photos from Sullivan Owen's post 16/11/2022

The final piece of my potager renovation is underway. Unsurprisingly this has been by far the most difficult part, with the foundation work taking me several weeks as I learned to use new tools and wrestled with the trencher, a machine I'm convinced was actually trying to drag me under ground. But the greenhouse is up, securely anchored into the foundation and ready for glass whenever the wind stops and I'm feeling brave.
