Expedition Cards by Søren Kent (Free Downloadable)

Free Downloadable Expedition Cards: https://pegandawlbuilt.com/blogs/journal/expedition-cards-by-soren-kent

Somewhere along the way, during camping trips and road trips – somewhere deep in the pandemic, Søren began to transform his Homeschool task of traditional journaling into something he was excited to do. Using Procreate on his iPad, he now creates his own alternative journal cards with personality-filled drawings, descriptions, and photographs!

It has been heartening to watch the evolution of his journaling practice, from bland journal pages to documented expeditions – completely Søren-ed and so shareable. We’ve simplified his card design into a free downloadable PDF! Søren tested the new card (on the spot!) with a local hiking adventure to Harmony Hill.

As Søren flipped through his cards for my camera, he said, “It feels like I’m reliving all of this – even just glancing at each one.” If the purpose of a journal is to create a ritual, to reflect and document, to build writing and observation skills, and to have a place to go, then Søren has fulfilled these expectations, and I am overjoyed with his finding his own way!

We set out for Montreal a week ago, not knowing, as usual, what we’d see along the way. The foggy first morning found Walter painting at the bottom of the mountains in the Catskills, NY. "What is it? And shall I die before I find it? Then (as I was walking through Russell Square last night) I see the mountains in the sky: the great clouds; and the moon which is risen over Persia; I have a great and astonishing sense of something there, which is 'it' – it is not exactly beauty that I mean. It is that the thing is in itself enough: satisfactory; achieved. A sense of my own strangeness, walking on the earth is there too: of the infinite oddity of the human position; trotting along Russell Square with the moon up there, and those mountain clouds. Who am I, what am I, and so on." – Virginia Woolf ’Til All That’s Left is Ash (Instrumental Version) by Ludlów #landscape_painting #oilpainting #oiloncanvas #oilpaints #artcollector #pegandawl #walterkent #artistsofinstagram #exploreamerica #paintingoftheday #smallbusiness #artlovers #instaart #arte #fineart #landscapepainting #contemporaryart #landscapeoilpainting #writingcommunity #exploremore #outdoorlife #campinglife #naturelovers

Coming soon! These vintage waxed canvas mini totes will be available in our upcoming Of a Kind collection. @pegandawlbuilt and I went on our first road trip together in 2008 and stopped at flea markets along the way. We found two old wooden cots (that I had to have) with thee magical stripy textiles. We ditched the wooden parts (I wish we hadn't!) and saved these for some future something. Here they are! I LOVE them. What do you think? PS: We are having a tiny colour battle. Is the stripe red or orange? Tell us in the comments! Join our newsletter to receive the launch preview and announcement! https://pegandawlbuilt.com/pages/newsletter-signup

A peek into our jewelry process! This was an exciting week at the Peg and Awl workshop – Walter completed my first jewelry casting of botanical rings in gold and silver. He also snuck one of our new rings — from our upcoming collection — into the cast! We've always considered our jewelry collections to be outliers to the pragmatic nature of Peg and Awl. Each one takes us down a new meandering path, that leads us to ask new questions and happen upon new discoveries. Our Botanical Collection takes a closer look and celebrates the beauty and usefulness of seven plants often considered weeds. Our newest work challenges us to step out into the world, to look up, and to partake in the ritual of creating and observing everyday. Have a look at the preview in our Stories over on @pegandawljewelry!

Making Paint from Wissahickon Schist
For this Of a Kind Collection, we made a small batch of petite paint sets, including hand mulled paint and a brush rest. Our Ghost Green watercolour is made from Wissahickon Schist that was pulverized when digging the well for our barn. This paint is set in Bioplastic Pans, made by Poems About You, that fit in our Painter’s Palettes. https://pegandawlbuilt.com/collections/spring-of-a-kinds-2022/products/handmade-paint-with-brush-rest Explore our Spring 2022 Of a Kind Collection! https://pegandawlbuilt.com/blogs/journal/spring-2022-of-a-kind-collection 🎵 Malvas Polska by Sandra Marteleur

Making Paint for our Painter's Palettes
I stumbled into the paint making world one, cold, wet, and sleety grey day in New York — on a mission to find a gift for Walter. Maps sent me to Kremer Pigments and I must have looked like a proper alien when I walked in, my face rearranged with wonder. Since then I've been seeing the world differently, tucking colours from the earth into my pockets, pouches, and lunch containers for to later sift, grind and mull then swipe across my pages. Our Painter’s Palettes: https://pegandawlbuilt.com/collections/painter-s-palettes Join our Newsletter: https://pegandawlbuilt.com/pages/newsletter-signup

We love to extend birthdays into birthmonths and are headed to Elk Neck, Maryland for the weekend to continue our pandemic camping birthdays! The weather channel promises a thunder and lighting tonight and this is our first Mantis trip with Pearl! Thunder and lightning, cozy habitat, Pearl, family, friends, good food, art and words—a kind of heaven, I say. Here I turned a 7-minute Sendak deliberation into a 1-minute speed packing!
