Dwaun is the 9th president of Claflin University, a historically black university in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He focuses on increasing retention and graduation rates as well as fostering participation by African-American students in STEM fields. On his Eisenhower fellowship, Dwaun visited Germany and Ireland to explore how these countries maintain low incarceration and recidivism rates. Emboldened by what he learned on fellowship, Dwaun launched Claflin University's Center for Social Justice in 2020. The Center focuses on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, prison education programs and efforts to address disparities in healthcare.
