Supply shop for fiber folk. Wild Hand is a community that believes in the magic of fiber craft: to Nestled in Philadelphia’s Mt.
Airy neighborhood, we offer materials, education, and community to encourage curiosity for fiber craft: weaving, crochet, knitting, felting, spinning, dyeing, knotting, stitching, fleece processing, and more! We believe that the wellbeing of our fiber community — including the people, land, and animals that create the supplies we sell — is more important than anything else. With that in mind, we carefully select the supplies we carry and promote.

Zagal is here (and going real fast!!). Zagal is a bulky weight yarn produced exclusively from the wool of Portuguese Merino sheep, an indigenous breed found in the south of Portugal, especially in the Alentejo. The Merino breed originated in the Iberian Peninsula, possibly before Roman times, and has always been highly prized by its finesse and softness.
For centuries this Iberian wool was traded all over Europe while Merino sheep were subject to strict laws that kept the breed exclusive to the peninsula. The Portuguese Merino Breeders Association (ANCORME) verifies the origin and quality of the fleece used to produce this yarn.

We have been lovin’ the love for these Breed Exploration Starter Packs from our amazing (and local!) friend, dyer, spinner, and carder, . Keira created the Breed Exploration Starter Kits for new and experiences spinners to get a feel for the wool from six different breeds of sheep. This is a fun way to dig deeper into your spinning or felting practice and start to explore the unique qualities of some of our favorite breeds! This pack goes great alongside The Field Guide to Fleece 100 Sheep Breeds and How To Use Their Fibers by Carol Ekarius and Deborah Robson.
Each starter pack includes 20g of undyed fiber from the following breeds: Blue Faced Leicester (BFL), Corriedale, Merino, Polwarth, Shetland, Superwash Merino.
Keira Wiggins is a Jersey City based textile designer specializing in yarn dyes and color development.

BIG restock at the shop!! We have sweater-quantities of oh-so-many colors including this NEW-to-us colorways of many of the restocked yarns. Y’all have really been lovin’ on Mungo; a delightful recycled wool and cotton yarn that is entirely spun from pre-consumer waste generated by Portuguese spinning mills. The wool used in Mungo is sourced in Portugal and/or Spain, and milled/dyed in Portugal.

Retrosaria Rosa Pomar makes minimally processed heritage wool yarns from Portugal. Their yarns are created in collaboration with small manufacturers, breeders associations, and shepherds. All Rosa Pomar yarns are non-superwash, not bleached, have no silicone-based softeners, and mulesing is not practiced in Portugal. There is so much to love about these yarns (and the very cute labels are just one of them).

The Manos Cooperatives were founded in 1968, begun by five women whose goal was to develop economic opportunities for women in a country where there were, and are still, few opportunities for work. The Manos Cooperatives provide health insurance, retirement pensions, paid vacations and paid maternity leave for their members. Moreover, members enjoy a sense of achievement and of self-determination. Shop owner had a chance to visit the cooperative in Uruguay this past spring!

We adore Cotton Lino from ! Cotton and linen are the heroes of this 4-ply blend, and will give your garments structure and lightness. The alpaca lends a softness that's delightful to wear and amazing on your hands. The silk is there for extra luxurious drape and strength. Because of the combination of animal and plant fibers in this yarn, we have found it suitable for fi*****ng weight through DK weight projects. Cotton Lino is milled and dyed in Peru; all of the fiber is sustainably sourced and ethically milled as well as OEKO Tex certified.

So excited about the NEWEST colorway from (just a few left in stock!). We've had a huge response to this yarn and recommend grabbing your skeins while we have them; we also restocked some favorite colors. NEW from ! Undine is a stunning DK weight base in organic cotton and linen. Both linen and cotton yarn are strong, durable, and absorbent. They are an inelastic fiber and do not have the same memory as wool. This combination has great stitch definition and creates a beautiful, drapy fabric. It is machine washable and can be tumble-dried. It will get softer with use and makes for a great year-round fiber.

Felted Chunky Rope! We love these little balls of felted rope. Lovely for weaving (dreaming up a whole chunky felted rug with this;). Each 100g (16.5') ball is pre-felted into a chunky wool rope; each ball is one of a kind because of small cutting irregularities and color differences making this yarn extra special.
