Putting on a show 🎭
This past Friday, our Phoenix campus was gifted with a wonderful performance of the “Rabbit and Coyote” by @greatazpuppets and @cuentoaventuras from Chorizo Puppets.

Over 40 Members were in attendance for an afternoon of comedy, drama, creativity, passion and impactful story telling with a message. The experience was a wonderful capstone to the week and is a testament to the power of community partners connecting to enrich one another.

🎉✨Thank you for a fantastic performance Jeffrey, Lisa and Gaston, looking forward to the next one!🌍💫

Music is in the air....today, we were joined at our Phoenix campus by The Phoenix Symphony! A quartet of string musicians performed songs from across the musical lexicon, working in everything from Strauss to Star Wars. We are so grateful to Phoenix Symphony for bringing this enrichment to the Phoenix campus and for giving our Members the opportunity to enjoy the symphony in a way that uniquely resonates with them.

Music is food for the soul! We loved this small moment from Cory in our pioneering Supported Aging program; for those about to jingle, we salute you! Cory has been a Member of The Tree for over 20 years, and calls one of our Community Living settings home. She brings a smiling face, positive attitude, and readiness to rock to program each day. Supported Aging is a first-of-its-kind program creating meaningful enrichment for older adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in both Phoenix and Casa Grande. We are proud to facilitate this program in partnership with Hospice of the Valley, whose vast knowledge of dementia care guides our work. Day to day, our Golden Age Members participate in music therapy, art therapy, yoga, guided movement, trips in and around town, and quality enrichment opportunities that impact this important stage of life. Visit our website to watch the video that Arizona’s Department of Economic Services produced about the program, and to learn more about how you can get involved! Video description: Cory, an older adult with white hair and clear framed glasses, plays an electric keyboard in a recreation room. The floor is wood and the walls are pale blue brick. Cory first tentatively plays a few notes, then confidently plays a well known Christmas standard. The camera pans to the left, showing Raleigh, an older adult with close-cropped brown hair, wearing a sweater and singing along to the familiar tune. At the end of the video, an adult man in a mask with short gray hair walks behind Cory and says “Thank you, Cory!”

This past Friday, we celebrated 60 years of Empowering, Advocating, & Evolving at our Phoenix campus! The community joined us for a historical exhibit, silent auction, intergenerational performance from our Members, and an evening of captivating energy. We are truly so grateful for the support that we have received and look forward to another 60 years & beyond. Thank you to all of our community partners and to YOU for being a part of history. Unable to make the event but still want to contribute? Follow the link in below to donate in honor of our 60th anniversary. Theopportunitytree.org/how-you-can-help/donate

"With the seven months of program we've had, I've seen changes...our Members have been more responsive to trying new activities, be much more engaged in some of the activities we do..." Check out this awesome spotlight that Arizona Department of Economic Security did on our cutting-edge Supported Aging program! We are proud to offer this one-of-a-kind program uniquely geared towards individuals living with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, as well as experiencing symptoms of dementia. Many of our Members have been a part of our community for decades, and now face new challenges as they age - this program meets the moment by creating meaningful impact and contributing to quality of life in the Golden Years. We are grateful to Hospice of the Valley for making this program possible and look forward to watching it grow!

This is the last day of our Giving Tuesday Campaign! Today we wanted to share another video from many of our Members in Avondale. They are so excited about the coffee cart that they all came up with signature drinks. We have Kevin's Caramel Macchiato, Mason's Coke, Susie's Tea, and Jair's Hot Cocoa! Don't they all sound totally delicious? We can make these tasty beverages possible with your support, so please consider donating on this Giving Tuesday, or any day really! We need $3000 to reach our goal and we cannot do it without your generosity and support. . bit.ly/OTGivingTuesday . . #TheOpportunityTree #OTGivingTuesday #Givingtuesday #arizonanonprofit #disabledlivesmatter #disabilityemployment #disabilityadvocate
