Barrow Neurological Foundation Receives the Largest Gift Award
On February 29, the staff of Barrow Neurological Foundation tuned in to the 2024 Philanthropy Education Summit presented by CommonSpirit Health Philanthropy; during the annual Phillies ceremony, we were honored to be presented with the Largest Philanthropic Gift award. In the 2023 fiscal year, our Foundation was awarded a $10 million grant from the Office of the Arizona Governor through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The ARPA grant supports Barrow's research into the effects of COVID-19 on Alzheimer's disease. This gift was the largest documented single gift secured across the national ministry of 80+ fundraising entities. I have Dr. Lawton and everyone at Barrow who cared for me to thank for that.” Joey Jean Farmer was only 14 when she was diagnosed with an inoperable arteriovenous malformation (AVM) that could rupture at any time. She met Michael T. Lawton, MD, President and CEO of Barrow Neurological Institute, who proposed radiation therapy to shrink the AVM to an operable state. In 2019, Dr. Lawton successfully removed the entirety of Joey Jean’s AVM, saving her life.
