“If something is important, don’t say, ‘I’ll do that next year.’ Do it as soon as you can. You don’t know if you’ll have next year.” Wise words from our dedicated Laboratory Scientist, Rene Smith, who is sharing her new outlook on life. It’s been one year since she collapsed inside ODA’s Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab. She had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Lab staff members helped save her life by performing CPR and using the Lab’s AED equipment until first responders arrived. Today wraps up National CPR and AED awareness week. Rene’s story demonstrates why these skills are crucial to know. Her message is simple - don’t wait to take the trip, tell your loved ones how much you care and celebrate life today.
