The Original Haw River Crawdaddies wish you a good old fashioned hibernal solstice. Remember: axial tilt is the reason for the season!
Crawdaddies are proposing to play at the Fearrington Farmer’s Market tomorrow. Now, I know it gets dark and starts chilling early these days so come by and say howdy before the sun goes down.
Wednesday night we played for the folks attending the first annual Lee County “Friends Of Cooperative Extension Appreciation Event.” We sang songs about food and drink of course but we forgot to sing “Pig In A Pen,” so maybe they’ll have to have us back next year to make up for that lapse. This pig was well cooked by a team of experts.
The food was great, the people even better. Among the many table prizes given were half a dozen Chatham Pumpkins, a heritage type that has been passed down since colonial days, a cherished gift from the original inhabitants of our fruitful land. That shared treasure is a reminder of the best of humanity.
As I left I got to gaze upon a field of cotton lit by starlight and be thankful for the farmers that feed and clothe us all.
The Original Haw River Crawdaddies are headed for home! our fourth gig of the week so you know we will be rounding the bases like a Hickory Crawdads Baseball Club Crawdad looking to play in the Bigs. There will be food songs.
