Wednesday night we played for the folks attending the first annual Lee County “Friends Of Cooperative Extension Appreciation Event.” We sang songs about food and drink of course but we forgot to sing “Pig In A Pen,” so maybe they’ll have to have us back next year to make up for that lapse. This pig was well cooked by a team of experts.

The food was great, the people even better. Among the many table prizes given were half a dozen Chatham Pumpkins, a heritage type that has been passed down since colonial days, a cherished gift from the original inhabitants of our fruitful land. That shared treasure is a reminder of the best of humanity.

As I left I got to gaze upon a field of cotton lit by starlight and be thankful for the farmers that feed and clothe us all.

This post was for last week’s market but in fact we will start playing after 9:00 sometime this week. Crawdaddies like to get caffeinated before playing. Sometimes it takes a while to kick in. See you Saturday morning!
