This documentary has become much more than a project. It’s a labor of love.

We are deeply grateful to Nick and Ammiel, gifted filmmakers from Pittsburgh, PA, who recently spent several weeks at Hekima Place. They tirelessly documented the lives and mission of our organization to create a documentary to share with the world.

Going above and beyond expectations, they even helped the girls with their homework each evening! Thanks to Nick and Ammiel's talents and passion for our cause, more people will now see and understand the vital work happening here. Their efforts represent the spirit of the Hekima Place community and demonstrate the power we all have to positively impact others. We know that we cannot fully express our appreciation, but sincerely thank Nick and Ammiel for shining a light on Hekima Place!

The Protin Group team is wrapping up its location filming in Kenya for the Hekima Place documentary this weekend.

This has been a life changing experience for Nick and Ammiel…and Kenya has visually exceeded expectations.

Nick is the Protin Group Director of Photography and Ammiel is a Videographer. They will be on location filming for our first documentary film.

I have had the privilege of being the Executive Director of Hekima Place for the past two years and, as part of the Hekima Place family, I have witnessed the incredible impact we are making in the lives of each girl who enters through out gates. No matter the reason for them joining our family, we meet them where they are and ensure we provide the care needed for each girl to thrive.

At Hekima Place, we often say we provide care for the whole child. This means we’re giving these children everything from a safe place to sleep at night and nutritious food, to a loving family of sisters and House Mums, to essential medical and mental health care, to a quality education. But it’s so much more than that.

The girls who come to Hekima Place aren’t just getting care, they’re getting a chance at a new life with a bright future. And through our village of supporters, we have been able to open doors of opportunity, doors of hope, doors of possibility.

This week marks the 73rd anniversary of a great moment in the integration of sports in this country, October 18, 1950, Pittsburgh native and Duquesne icon Chuck Cooper, became the first African American to step onto a court to play an NBA game.
