A Story of Strength and Renewal 🌟

"I was in a physically and mentally abusive relationship. I stayed home with my children at the time, and my abuser had complete control over my finances. I wanted a way out but did not have the money to leave. I started looking up different resources several months before leaving and found HEARTH.

HEARTH gave me the time to go back to school and work while also being able to prepare for a life on my own with my children. My children started to feel safe and secure through therapy. It showed them that women are capable of leaving unsafe situations and taking care of a family by themselves. HEARTH allowed me to prepare for life on my own by having the time to go to school to give my children a better future."

This past weekend, they prepared delicious, homemade lasagnas and salads for our moms and their children. Our community deeply appreciates the warm meals and kind wishes!

'I was in a 17-year abusive marriage. With the help of the police officers in the district I lived in, I obtained a PFA against my husband at the time and found myself homeless with three children. With HEARTH, I have gained my independence back. I have been able to maintain employment, education, and housing without having to live with an abusive and controlling partner. HEARTH provided me with a beautiful and safe home during my stay. I was given the tools and resources I needed to become self-sufficient and the best mom and person I always wanted to be. HEARTH providing them a safe space was the foundation of it all. I was able to utilize therapy for my children on-site to begin their healing journey. The facility has beautiful playgrounds and an outstanding basketball court for my kids to play on. Outside organizations provided enrichment activities for my kids. We now live in a safe home, and I am working full-time and still in school part-time. HEARTH gave me the support I needed so that I could be whole for myself and my children. I have become so much stronger as a person leaving HEARTH.'

Our Monday Night Programming is a blast, thanks to our incredible volunteers! Every Monday, while our moms attend skill-building workshops, wellness activities, and community meetings, our dedicated volunteers provide fun and welcoming childcare for their kiddos. We want to send a huge thank you to all of our Childcare Volunteers for making these evenings so special for our families at HEARTH! ❤

We are thrilled to announce that HEARTH has been awarded PHARE funding from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA)! This support will help us continue providing housing and supportive services to the families that we serve. Thank you, PHFA, for believing in our mission! 🏠

Today PHFA has awarded 322 recipients a total of $64.8 million in Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) funding. This money will boost housing and community development initiatives in all 67 counties.

We anticipate this funding will impact Pennsylvania households through a variety of affordable housing efforts including:
🔴 169 new, affordable housing units will be created
🔴 1,181 affordable housing units will be preserved/rehabilitated
🔴 900 units rehabilitated/preserved through the funding of 4% tax credit projects
🔴 61 new single-family homes to be created
🔴 227 housing units will be created or rehabilitated specifically for households in danger of homelessness
🔴 316 potential new homebuyers to receive down payment/closing cost assistance
🔴 More than 6,900 families/households to receive housing counseling/financial education
🔴 More than 14,000 families/households to receive housing assistance (rent, utilities, transportation

At HEARTH, we provide temporary housing and supportive services to mothers and their children who have experienced homelessness, domestic violence, or other significant trauma. Many of our families arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs, fleeing dangerous situations in search of safety and a fresh start. 🏠
