PCOS is associated with overweightness, which causes a concern considering that some American doctors are somewhat notorious for refusing to give adequate care to women who are plus-sized, blaming any and sometimes all ailments on their weight. This issue along with controversy over diagnostic methods when most common symptoms are all not present in a patient (hirsutism, irregular menstrual cycles, obesity) creates more possibility to neglect and/or dismiss a patient’s symptoms. Primate younglings are being born in captivity and most likely being tortured, being restrainted and injected with drugs or being force-fed toxic chemicals through tubing. 2019 records show that approximately 6,700 long-tailed macaques (a type of monkey) were being imported from Mauritius and Vietnam. On September 5th, a gender reveal gone wrong caused over 7,000 acres of land to be lost from a fire that was triggered by a smoke-generating pyrotechnic device. In today’s society, environmentalism plays an important on daily lives because of its negative and positive impacts. The purpose of environmentalism is to protect and conserve the resources of earth’s ecosystem. Additionally, improving certain environmental issues such as plastic waste is another contribution to its impact.

Big corporations such as L’Oreal, Estee Lauder, Clorox, Johnson & Johnson, and many others test their products on animals or fund these testings. How can we improve our water footprint as Americans?

The USA’s current population is 329,981,900 people. According to the USGS, in 2015, annual water consumption amounted to 445,286,949,770.52 cubic meters of water, or 1,349 cubic meters of water per year.

According to Drink Tap, the three household facilities that use the most water are faucets, clothes washers, and showers. Taking small measures such as turning off the tap when not actively using it and taking shorter showers can greatly lessen water usage. To take larger steps toward water conservation, use a front-loading washer instead of a top-loading washer, and install a water saving flush option on your toilet. That’s what we as individuals can do to help. Considering the majority of water usage comes from energy production, using alternative energy methods may also help as well; although much more expensive, solar and wind power are sustainable alternatives, as well as motion-powered generators.

With the death of the last Sumatran Rhino in Malaysia last year, the future of the species appears nothing short of bleak. Society can only turn to the consistent irresponsibility of Asian governments over the past few years as the source of the animals’ grim fate. Lack of government intervention in the past has inevitably led to merciless poaching and destruction of the animals’ habitat. We as humans are solely responsible for the deaths of these innocent creatures, putting their lives aside for the sake of economic progress. All eyes must now turn to Indonesia, the last country to house the dwindling rhino population. The fate of the remaining 80 Sumatran rhinos are now lying at the hands of the Indonesian government who only hold eight of the remaining rhinos in captivity. We must do all we can to make sure that these rhinos are kept safe so that the population may continue to thrive again one day!

This has become a serious issue because water pollution poisons wildlife and our ecosystem and can even result in health problems for humans. Unsanitary water infects people with dangerous diseases such as cholera and typhoid. You can help protect the earth from water pollution by disposing of toxic solutions safely and being careful of what you wash down the drain. It is important to keep our water safe because only 2.5% of it is fresh and only 1% of freshwater is accessible.

BOKEO PROVINCE, LAOS — a province who's citizens deny the existence of any local tiger zoo in hopes of concealing the truth. Evidence from 2015 discloses a live animal enclosure housing 38 Asiatic black bears and 26 tigers with a head keeper who took pride in breeding and butchering the animals. This, however, was not the only tiger farm around. It is estimated that East and Souteast Asia have at least 8,000 tigers are enclosed in over 200 facilities. Tigers, who are meant to live their lives in the wild, should not be held captive where they are victims of torture and forceful breeding. We must use Laos, a country that no longer has any wild tigers left, as an example of what may occur worldwide and protect those who cannot protect themselves.

With an incredible 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men having reported being r**ed at least once in their lives, it is clear to see that the issue of s*xual violence is nowhere near being in the past. Not only does society put pressure on victims of r**e to stay silent about their abuse, certain states have laws that make it significantly more difficult for rapists to be prosecuted for their actions. For example, North Carolina had a law in place for an incredible 4 decades which stated that a person could not withdraw their consent for s*xual actions once the actions had already begun. Laws like this tell r**e victims that the rights of an abuser are more important to government officials than the rights of the abused. Additionally, there is still a law in effect in Ohio today that states if a woman is drugged and s*xually assaulted by her husband, that abuse is not considered r**e. These two laws and many more just go to show how big of a problem s*xual violence is in our country and highlight the need for governmental and societal reform pertaining to s*xual assault.

RAISE Foundation is a high school run OC based 501c(3) non profit organization dedicated to preserving species, the environment, and society through methods of sustainability, humanitarian projects, campaigns, and education. We have branches in 7 OC high schools spanning across 3 school districts.

During these unprecedented times, two huge concerns are protecting the people that have to come in contact with people that have the virus and to keep low income families or those who have lost their jobs afloat, so they are able to purchase necessities. We have decided to take initiative and donate KN95 masks, face shields, and care packages to OC hospitals and local families in need of supplies.
