👨‍🔧 It’s National Backflow Prevention Day, so we thought we would share some useful info on them as backflows are important to our water, especially here in SW Florida! Most people don’t even notice these little devices outside their homes or businesses but you often have to get them tested and certified regularly, depending on where you are.

👨‍🎓Only a backflow certified tech (not covered by a master plumber’s license in most places) can test and certify these devices. If you have any questions or need to schedule your inspections, give us a call on 941-625-9981 and we will be happy to help!

👨‍🔧 You’ll often hear plumbers remind you not to flush wipes, paper towels and other bulky things down the toilet, as they don’t break up easily and can block your drain lines. We would like to add sweaters to that list! 👕 We were called to a whole house stopping up today and pulled out a nice blue sweater!

🏠 We had the opportunity to help out on a home that Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County were building yesterday. This is such a great initiative and we were so happy we could help. If you are looking to volunteer, this is a really great program.

For your information.. if you have a private well in Charlotte County and are worried about contamination due to flooding from the storm, you can have it tested for free at the below information.

If you are concerned your private well may have been contaminated by the flooding from Hurricane Debby, you can test your water at no cost to you Aug. 5-9 while supplies last. Follow these steps:
1. Pick up a kit from the Department of Health in Charlotte County Environmental Health office, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. 1100 Loveland Blvd., Port Charlotte.
2. Follow the directions on the kit’s instruction sheet.
3. Take the water sample to the Benchmark Private Well Testing Laboratory before 3 p.m., Monday-Thursday. The lab is located at 1001 Corporate Ave., Suite 102, North Port.
4. Results will come from the lab.

Please note this is testing for private wells only. If you receive potable water from public utility, there is no need to test your water, as that is being done by the facility. Due to Hurricane Debby, this service is being provided at no cost for a limited time only.

🌪️ With our first hurricane of the season rolling in at a mere cat 5(!), we thought we’d share some tips and tricks to help you prep for anything that may come our way in the next few months..

🏠 Check the storm drains and those around your home to make sure they are clear from debris. This helps to channel the increased water away from your home.
🛀 As the storm approaches, fill your tub and sinks with water, especially if you are on a well. This will give you enough to get through if your water lines are impacted or you lose power to the well. It also helps clear out the drains after the storm.
📃 Check for updates from your local emergency management team about boil notices or impact to city sewers or water.
🌴 After the storm, check for damage around your home including fallen trees which may have uprooted sewer or water lines and clear the debris from any drainage areas.
☎️ Keep a list of trusted, licensed and insured people (🌟like us!) to call if you need repairs after the storm. Often unlicensed/uninsured storm chasers will come to town and take advantage of the situation, often leaving people in more of a mess than they already were.
