Today I received a call back from a candidate I have been trying to reach for days. Her profile is a very good match for a role, I am workikg on. So, I was feeling pretty bumped that she had fallen out of the process.

During our call, she apologized and explained her interest on the role and the reasons why she had not attended my calls.

She was involved in a car accident and had been in the hospital for the last 3 days (she gave me permission to share her story). For now, she needs to get well so she will not be part of the process. Even in this situation she was so professional and followed up with me. A gesture of kindness and professionalism that I truly appreciate.

I wanted to share this story only because I think is important to humanize our processes. Not all candidates are made equal. I know next time, I will be less quick to judge and more open to understand, that sometimes life gets in the way of our professional plans.

Job purpose

As a CPA of mid-size company in North Carolina, you will be responsible for developing the business strategy to prepare and execute, the organization´s financial statements and tax planning.

Duties and responsibilities

Primarily this position will be responsible to prepare tax records, examine financial records for accuracy and prepare all financial reporting needed for the business. While keeping track of the company P/L to demonstrate the financial health of the company to stakeholders. This role needs to ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulation in the area.

• Ensure that all company statements and tax records comply with laws and regulation of the state of North Carolina, and the states where subsidiaries operate.
• Plan and execute tax strategies for the company.
• Inspect all financial data and all accounting systems to keep all information accurate and up to date
• Follow all internal financial policy effectively, in compliance with state laws
• Skillfully plan and prepare budget and cost control initiatives
• Review all information presented in detail to prevent errors or fraud of any kind
• Analyze, collect, compile and evaluate all financial data

Qualifications include:
• Bachelor´s degree in accounting with a valid CPA license in the State of North Carolina
• Knowledge in mid-size companies in the Construction and construction services Industry
• Fully Bilingual English/Spanish
• 2 – 4 years of experience as a CPA with a proven track record
