Our latest news 12/08/2023

As the festive holiday lights illuminate our surroundings, we are thrilled to update you on the latest developments and heartwarming stories from The Shopp thrift boutique. Your unwavering support has been the cornerstone of our success, and we are immensely grateful for your dedication to our mission.

At The Shopp, we believe that providing dignity and hope is a crucial step in empowering lives, and we are committed to making a positive impact through clothing and essential resources. Together, we embark on an intentional journey of repurposing donations to those who have been affected by s*x trafficking, domestic violence, homelessness, and addiction.

Your support has enabled us to create a transformative impact in the lives of individuals facing adversity. Through the generosity of our donors and customers, we've been able to provide not just clothing but also essential resources that contribute to a sense of security and well-being. Since we opened our doors, we've successfully outfitted over 180 individuals and also delivered over 75 packed suitcases for those who are starting completely over! Moreover, we've hosted 6 special shopping events in collaboration with dedicated advocates who are actively mentoring individuals on the path to recovery and a new, healthier lifestyle.

As we reflect on the year gone by, we celebrate the milestones achieved and the lives touched through your support. The Shopp stands as a symbol of positive change, and each item purchased or donated has played a vital role in this journey. Your support is not just a donation; it's a lifeline for those who need it the most.

Together, let's continue to make a lasting impact and spread the warmth of compassion during this holiday season. Come visit us, Shop, Volunteer, and Donate!

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous and meaningful holiday season.
With gratitude,

The Shopp Team

Ever wonder where do our extra donations go?

Behind the Scenes: What Happens to Your Donations?
We're excited to give you a behind-the-scenes look at their journey and impact!

Sorting for Success: Every item counts!
Our team carefully sorts and organizes every donated item to provide the best options for both our customers and those we serve. While many items do find their way to The Shopp's floor, others continue onto a different journey with the same intention just under the care of other likeminded nonprofit organizations.

Key Partnerships: Extending Our Reach
The Shopp believes in the power of collaboration, and that's where our key partnerships come into play. One of our crucial connections is with Northwest Nonprofit Services (NWNPS), a privately held wholesale entity. NWNPS works tirelessly to extend the life and impact of your donations by working with the Arc of the Peninsulas, an organization dedicated to helping people with developmental disabilities. The Arc provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals to rebuild their lives, aligning with our mission to make a positive and lasting difference within the needs of the community.

Your Impact: Addressing Critical Needs
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your contributions, which go beyond supporting The Shopp. They directly reach into the heart of the community, addressing critical needs and making a lasting impact.

Thank you for being an integral part of our mission to empower lives through clothing and essential resources. Together, we are making a difference one donation at a time.

New Collaborations

We are thrilled to share with you our exciting new collaboration with Elevate Him, a non-profit organization based in Northern Oregon that is dedicated to improving and saving lives, particularly focusing on men facing challenges such as hopelessness, isolation, lack of confidence, addiction, and trauma. Elevate Him is a 501(c)(3) organization that plays a crucial role in addressing mental health concerns, daily life challenges, and support needs, ultimately providing a safe space for individuals in crisis.

The statistics on su***de underscore the urgency of their mission, as su***de rates have disproportionately affected the male population for decades. Elevate Him is actively working to bridge the gap from crisis to confidence by offering invaluable resources, including mental health support and professional clothing which is instrumental in assisting and preparing men for various occasions such as job interviews or court appearances. Which then successfully contributes to positive self-image, su***de prevention, and awareness, making a healthy and meaningful impact on the community at large.

Fortunately, The Shopp had an abundance of men's professional clothing and not enough room at our location so what better opportunity than to contribute to filling Elevate Him's clothing closet. This partnership not only helps expand their resources by being able to provide additional sizes and styles but also enables us to intentionally repurpose our donations and reach more men in need.

We firmly believe that this special connection will strengthen our sense of community and enhance our collective impact on the lives of those we serve.
As we move forward, we are confident that the collaboration between Elevate Him and Northwest Collaborative will yield positive outcomes for our community and individuals facing mental health challenges and other obstacles.

Continued Collaborations

Making a Difference Together
We are excited to highlight the positive outcomes of our ongoing collaborations with impactful organizations that align with our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the community:

SEI (Self Enhancement, Inc.):
The Shopp was able to provide over 100 business attire items for SEI's First
Healing & Resilience Resource Fair on October 14, 2023
This initiative aimed to empower individuals with the workshops, resources and clothing they need to succeed in pursuing their professional endeavors.

Level UP:
The Shopp continues to be dedicated to supporting Level UP graduates by providing individuals with vouchers for job interview outfits. Through our partnership with Level UP we believe in helping individuals put their best foot forward as they transition into the workforce.

Multnomah County DA Advocates:
In collaboration with Multnomah County DA Advocates, The Shopp donated multiple bags of business casual pieces to support their participants. This contribution aims to assist individuals in presenting themselves professionally as they appear in court hearings for various circumstances.

Cupcake Girls:
The Shopp extended its reach to Chicago, assisting a participant by providing a weatherproof jacket and gloves through our partnership with Cupcake Girls. This effort reflects our commitment to addressing the diverse needs of individuals in different regions.

Raphael House & Bradley Angle:
Gift certificates from The Shopp continue to play a crucial role in aiding domestic violence (DV) participants associated with Raphael House and Bradley Angle. These certificates empower individuals on their journey to safety and self-dependence by enabling them to select items that suit their unique needs.

Safety Compass:
Through our collaboration with Safety Compass, The Shopp has made a profound impact on survivors of commercial s*xual exploitation and human trafficking. Our contributions, including emergency clothing and toiletries packed in suitcases, aim to provide comfort and support to those in vulnerable situations.
We remain committed to these partnerships and look forward to expanding our collaborations to create a more significant and lasting impact on the lives of individuals in need. Together, we can make a difference and empower individuals to build a better future.

Special Shopping Events

Holiday Shopping Spree: S2S Family Services Group
Last week, we hosted our first Holiday Shopping Spree for the S2S Family Services group, and it was a wonderful night of joy and laughter! This partnership with Raphael House allowed women who are successfully and safely navigating out their Domestic Violence, currently stabilized, housed and moving forward with their lives a carefree night of shopping. The Shopp was able to provide over $500 in clothes and other items to these courageous and strong women. Hearing their stories both encourages and reminds us why we are doing this in the first place.
We love these Special Shopp Events and are always searching for new connections and groups that we can partner with in giving a night of hope and encouragement! For more information, please email us at [email protected]
