As we pack up the “quiet as it’s kept” exhibit we can’t help but to reflect on the amazing community events that happened with it! Thank you again @melissasmallart for instructing the community still life event! Participants were able to create a still life with the object of their choosing. They chose sentimental objects to form a meaningful community tableau. It was an amazing turn out, and we loved seeing everyone’s creations! Destiny Arianna (@destinyariannastudio) is one of the artists featured in the upcoming “quiet as it’s kept” Contemporary Black Art Exhibition opening on October 6 and is currently setting up her installation titled “No Trespassing: Sacred Land” We asked Destiny, what does being apart of this show mean to you? “ quiet as it’s kept is the first contemporary black art exhibition that the Trolley Barn has held in this space…to celebrate the Black experience from different lenses throughout the diaspora. Facts about The Art Effect’s curatorial training program (Trolley Barn Curatorial Team) - Teens earn a stipend as the leaders of international juried exhibitions - Teens plan various aspects of exhibition curation, including theme generation, artwork selection, art handling, exhibition installation, and interpretation. - Teens work closely with curators from across the country in a series of after school sessions, weekend workshops, and a variety of gallery and community events. - Teens learn about project management, develop public speaking skills through gallery presentations and artist talks - Teens establish professional connections with international artists, curators, and arts professionals to bring impressive exhibitions of high-caliber artwork to Poughkeepsie.
