Growing Nose Illusion
Upper school students in "The Brain: The Story of You, patterns in human behavior” class learned about perception and illusions. They participated in some tactile illusions including the growing nose illusion.
Grades 3-5 continued their study of push and pull forces by creating “hopper poppers” to see the relationship between the pull of the rubberband and the resulting push of the popper. They created data tables and analyzed their data in order to improve their poppers for maximum height! #ProgressiveEducation #hudsonvalley #poughkeepsieny
Kindergarteners practiced counting in Spanish while balancing on a balance board! Not only is this a fun way to see how long students can balance (with the help of Spanish teacher, Eduardo) but it's also a great sensory learning technique. This combination of movement with classroom lessons is one of the many ways that our lower schoolers learn and grow! #hudsonvalley #poughkeepsieny #independentschool #progressiveeducation
Upper school students learned about protein synthesis. They used pop beads to make stop motion videos to model both transcription and translation. Transcription is when an mRNA strand is formed by matching the complementary DNA nucleotide bases to take the message out of the nucleus, into the cytoplasm and attach to a ribosome. Translation occurs on the ribosome as the mRNA message is 'read' by the ribosome which matches complementary tRNA nucleotides bringing the appropriate amino acids to form the protein. What a cool combination of science and art!
