::Home Reno Update::

Tim has steadily been working on trimming out ALL of our doors in our 1915 craftsman home, and he FINALLY finished! Pheeeeeeew!!!

We have been working on bringing back all the craftsman character, which has included finding antique doors and updating the trim package to what you see here.

It’s been a labor of love, but it has been worth it to see our home come back to life! ❤️

This is where all the magic happens! Our shop is 1,800 square feet of cabinetry goodness.

If you’ve never worked with us before, we build our projects 90% OFF SITE! That includes painting and staining as well!

Why do we do this? To minimize the time we are in and out of your house. So, when we come to install, it usually only takes us a day! That means- we are only in your home for a couple of hours and then we are finished!

No more guessing when we are coming back. No more inconvenient scheduling and trying to find days and times that work. No contractors in and out for weeks at a time. It’s usually one and done. ❤️

They’ve also asked for a built-in bench in their kitchen nook! We always love a good bench- it maximizes space AND creates storage! We can’t wait to see this room wrapped up!

The first cabinetry project we tackled in our home renovation was our pantry! And two years later, we still are working to finish the space. 🤣

So, we totally get it- making a house a home takes time, and there will always be projects to tackle, but we also know that in the end… it’s always worth it!

If you’re new here, we are Heather and Tim, and we started KDK almost 7 years ago. We are truly a family business in every sense of the word, and we love that we get to serve other families. ❤️

We have two other members on our team. Danny and Adrian are skilled craftsmen who bring over 20 years of expertise and knowledge to the table. We are thankful for all the hands who help us serve our clients!

Our sweet clients in knew that this niche needed something special. They had a vision that included clean lines and a modern aesthetic.

As we started building, they noticed that their mantle may need an update to coordinate the new cabinetry. So, we were glad to lend a hand! ❤️

What makes a successful build?

1. Ensuring that we are all on the same page when it comes to design and structure, and sometimes that takes several conversations and back and forth emails. The end result is always worth it!
2. Prepping the space for our team to come and install! When clients have the room emptied and ready, it ensures that we can get right to work!
3. Showing up when we say we are going to show up! When you work with our team, you always know when we are on the way, and you’ll always know when we come back! We build everything offsite to ensure that we make it an easier process for our clients!

Our shop is located on our property, just walking distance from our office! In addition to ourselves, we have two skilled craftsmen on our team, who between them have over 20+ years in the trade.

One of our favorite things about owning this business is seeing what was dead space transform into something useful, intentional, and purposeful for our clients. We love that we can provide solutions to real life problems.

When we’re not in the shop working on builds for our clients, we are working on builds for our home renovation. So, we are always honing our skills… like 24/7. 🤣 Our most recent update was our kids room. We have officially finished their bathroom, bedroom, and closet! It’s the very first bedroom to be finished in our home.

Sometimes, we feel like that Hair Club commercial: “Not only are we the business owners, but we’re clients too!” 🤣

Design Hack: stuck on color? My usual tips are 1) if you’re going classic, stick to the palette that’s already in your home, or 2) add a punch of color by going moody. The trends we are seeing are blues, greens, and grays!

What’s surprising about building a custom build?

I think for most clients it’s how long it takes. While we typically have a production queue that sits around 12-16 weeks, once it’s someone’s project comes up, it only takes us days to build and one day to paint!

We build 90% of our cabinetry off-site. We even paint/stain offsite too! So, it’s usually a quick process once the build comes up in the queue!

Before and Afters are our favorite!

If you’ve been following our stories, we had the opportunity to knock out another project in our home renovation- a custom closet!

Thankfully, we had amply space to add loves of shelving, closed cabinetry, and space for all.the.kids.clothes! Our two youngest share this room, and we had space for not only all their clothes but a majority of their toys do!

It’s amazing what intentional cabinetry can do! 😍

It was such a special process watching this home renovation come together, and we are thankful for the small we got to play in building all the kitchen cabinetry. ❤️

Throwing it back to our first ever library ladder! Since then, we have done several projects with ladders, and every time, it makes us wish we had one in our home!

One frequently-asked question we receive is: How long is your wait time?

Our wait time is usually between 12-16 weeks. Not because of our production process, but because of the amount of clients we have in our queue!

Our actual build time is 3-5 days from start to finish! And that time frame also includes painting and staining as well! So, once you’re up in our queue, we rock and roll to get it home to you quickly!

What’s our most common request: Office spaces!

With the rise of working from home, there has been a demand for more home offices! Our clients are looking for a space that has function, storage, and a touch of design to fit their working styles. It’s also a space that feels a little more professional and has a great background for zoom calls too!

Reno Saturday: We are tackling our nursery for our youngest two kiddos. We added a vertical Shiplap wall. We wrapped up the craftsman trim around the baseboards and doors. We painted all.the.things. Tim started work on the custom closet too!

The worst part of renovating is something’s how long it takes and how tedious the work can be… especially when you’re filling in and sand 10,000 nail holes.

BUT the most rewarding part is ALWAYS the end result. When the room finally comes together and becomes the space you imagined. We are SO close to finishing, and it will be the very first bedroom to be completely done in our home!

👀 Unpopular Opinion 👀: With the rise of moody and bold colors, we still love a good white built-in! It’s clean! It’s classic! It never goes out of style!

Before: A catch-all space that was also being utilized for an office and display area.

🎥 Shop tour! 🎥

Our shop is located in Van Alstyne, TX! It’s a 2,000 square foot facility, where everything is custom built and made from scratch to fit our clients’ needs!

We utilize a CNC machine to custom cut all our pieces, which not only ensures accuracy but also helps us to cut down waste and maximize time!

All of our builds are loaded into our software, which also enables us to develop accurate 3D renderings. Once that information is uploaded, it’s send to the CNC to cut! After the cuts, assembly and finish work begins before it goes into paint, and when it comes out of paint, it goes home to our clients!
