Weekend Retreat: Journey of Grief and Restoration
We still have space in our upcoming weekend retreat, "Journey of Grief and Restoration" in March! Our Program Director Vicky Curtiss, a widow, spiritual director, and grief companion, this weekend offers a safe and supportive space for adults navigating the loss of a loved one. Explore self-understanding and practice self-kindness as we journey forward with grief. Join iconographers Drazen Dupor and Jim Gill for this Lenten Retreat during which you will receive detailed instructions to paint (or "write") your own icon. Held in person at Siena Retreta Center Thurday, March 23, to Sunday, March 26. In addition to offering spiritual guidance for those wishing to engage in this spiritual practice, we are known regionally as providing high-quality training and ongoing educational opportunities for spiritual guides. Our flagship program is a transformational Spiritual Guidance Training Program which prepares individuals to step into this call to accompany others as deep contemplative listeners. This past weekend, the 11th cohort graduated from this program and was commissioned to serve their communities as spiritual guides! As they move out into this ministry, they know they can look to Siena to offer additional retreats, trainings, and workshops throughout the year to help them grow their practice and deepen their skills. As a gesture of gratitude for all they experienced over the past two years, and in honor of Sister Rita Lui, whose vision has been central to the program, this year’s graduating cohort has established a fund to support the future of our Spiritual Guidance Initiatives! You’ve heard the term used around Siena, but what exactly is spiritual guidance? In a culture that moves fast and values productivity and control, spiritual guidance is a spiritual practice that offers space for you to slow down to the speed of your soul and pay attention to what you are invited to find there. It is the practice of intentionally setting aside time to notice the Divine Presence within the particulars of your life while in the presence of another. Spiritual guides are trained in the art of deep listening, and mirror back to you what they hear in your sacred stories. This kind of contemplative and confidential space can be particularly helpful in times of transition, discernment, grief, or questioning. No matter what is stirring within you, it’s an invaluable tool on the journey towards growth and transformation in our lives.
