This was bound to happen:

Effective January 1, 2024, BGE and their regional Authorized BGE Dealers and Distributors are enforcing their Limited Lifetime Warranty (and also for other BGE components).

In addition to a warranty claim form with all fields completed (by your local authorized BGE dealer) and photos of the damaged item/part, the following items will be required to make a warranty claim:

* Stamp Code which can be found inside the Dome of the EGG towards the back (opposite of the thermometer).
* A valid proof of purchase receipt from an Authorized Dealer will be required to make a Warranty claim. Types of receipts accepted are the original store receipt, credit card transaction, ACE rewards statement, and/or copy of a cancelled check showing purchase and purchaser of BGE product.

If the consumer does not have proof of purchase, dealers have been instructed to deny the claim in store, and direct the customer to https://biggreenegg.com/warranty-claim/ should further resolution be needed. If a consumer has an email from BGE approving the warranty, it will be honored in-store. Any freight charges are not covered under the Warranty.

Warranties will not be honored by Big Green EGG if the customer does not have proof of original ownership regardless of dealer's decision to honor.

Dealers will no longer be authorized to provide Warranty parts while customer is in-store filing a claim request, even with photos and original receipts provided. Dealers must submit the claim form and wait for approval (typically 24-48 hours during normal business hours) and if approved the customer will be notified. If denied, customer will also be notified. If denied, customer may pursue via the above listed website address directly with Big Green EGG.

It's important to note that BGE's Warranty has not changed. Only the reasonable enforcement of its policies in order to protect the original purchasers and original owners.

The BGE Warranty does not apply to 2nd-hand owners.
Original replacement parts are available for purchase or may be ordered through your local Authorized Big Green EGG Dealer if not readily available in stock. It's best to call ahead if you have any questions or concerns.

People, know your kamado cookers. The cooker in the photo is NOT a Komodo Kamado. Komodo Kamado cookers are expensive high quality cookers. This is Richard Johnson kamado. It is made from portland cement and chicken wire. These cookers were notorious for having their tiles fall off. And by the way, it's missing the stand that it would normally rest on.

Speaking of cracks, we found a rock in our bag of charcoal, and it was cracked! 🤣

PSA: We certainly don't advocate using lighter fluid in your ceramic cookers, but if your weird uncle Herman sprayed some lighter fluid in your ceramic cooker, or if you are looking at a used ceramic cooker that smells of lighter fluid, NO, the cooker is not ruined.

You can restore any ceramic cooker that smells of lighter fluid to its former glory by doing a series of 1-hour 500 degree burns. Yes, the high heat will drive any odor out of the ceramic.

We know. We sacrificed our medium BGE cooker for the sake of science and sprayed a lot of lighter fluid all over the fire box and fire ring. We then let it sit for an hour or two to let as much evaporate before lighting a fire. You could smell the lighter fluid all around the house. It was truly epic. 3 hot burns later, you would never know that we did it.

So fret not if you smell lighter fluid in your ceramic cooker. You can fix it.

To answer your question, yes, a pork loin that has been frozen for 2 1/2 years will taste a little funky when you cook it. Looks good, tastes, funky.

Just a heads up. We are getting close to finishing our review of the Auber Instruments SYL-3615 temperature controller. We want to cook a piece of meat with it and then all we need to do is proofread it and publish it!
