Hi! It’s been a while 🫣

I’m Sasha and I’m a Nutritional Therapy and Restorative Wellness (Level 1) Practitioner. My passion for helping people and love for holistic nutrition and wellness is what ultimately led me down this path after feeling lost for a long time.

My health wasn’t always great, in fact, most of my life was spent starving myself to meet unrealistic weight loss goals. I spent 5 years on and experimenting with fad diets, including - all which led me to dealing with chronic , digestive issues, unbalanced (my period went MIA for almost a year), weight loss resistance and skin issues ( and ).

It wasn’t until I took a approach to my and that things really started to change for me and my goal is to support anyone who might be on a similar health journey.

I take a no BS approach (pardon my French) to health and wellness. I won’t try to sell you on magical green powders or supplements that will “balance your hormones” or “detox” teas (aka laxatives 🥴) or meal replacement shakes.

My goal is to get to the root of the issue/dysfunction and support that, n a t u r a l l y.

If that’s your jam, you’re in the right place ❤️

I’ll start by saying that I recognize the importance of maintaining a healthy weight for better health, prioritizing movement, and the significance between greater muscle mass and longevity. 💪🏻

There is nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight… HOWEVER, the number on the scale is not a full indicator of health. It’s only ONE small piece of the puzzle. 🧩

Up until ~3 years ago, I was on a weight rollercoaster 🎢 going to extreme measures just to lose the pounds. What I learned is weight gain is not always associated with over eating, rather foundational imbalances within the systems of the body that lead to metabolic dysfunction.

Have you ever thought about how digestive health plays a role? Or blood sugar? Or hormones?

If losing weight is your goal, yet you’re ignoring these signs that your body is giving you, it’s time to reassess.

*Sleep: Wake up often? Hard time falling asleep? Wake up feeling sluggish + tired? 💤

*Energy: Our energy naturally dips in between meals but needing 3 cups of coffee ☕️ or energy drinks to function should not be the norm.

*Satisfaction: Not feeling satisfied after a meal? Get hungry 30 min to an hour later? Major cravings for sweet, salty or junk food? 🍭

*Healthy relationship w/food: Fear or anxiety when it comes to eating? Obsessed with weighing, tracking and counting calories? 😖

*Hair, skin, nails: Hair falling out? Skin issues? Thin nails that break easily? 💅🏻

*Digestion: Bloating? Abdominal pain? Constipation or diarrhea? Nausea? If you’re not having a least one solid p**p a day, there could be a deeper issue at play. 💩

*(ladies) Regular + pain free periods: Irregular timing, debilitating pain, vomiting, nausea, etc. surrounding your period is NOT normal. 🩸

*Self love + acceptance: Probably the most important of all. Accept that every body is unique and love yourself where you are at while sustainably working towards a healthy weight goal that is right for YOU. 🤍

In Chinese philosophy, yin and yang represent duality and these opposite forces together create a state of equilibrium. ☯️

This concept can be applied to fitness + movement and the need for balance and moderation.

This is where the two opposite practices of VINYASA (flow) and YIN come into play.

Don’t know where to start?

VINYASA or FLOW yoga is active and energizing ☀️

YIN yoga is slow and restorative 🌙

In combination, these two practices are a perfect compliment to every other physical activity + movement and in my personal opinion - absolutely needed!

Interested in practicing with me ? I offer both group classes and private 1:1 sessions. ✨ 🧘🏻‍♀️ ✨

One of my yoga students asked me last night why I became a yoga teacher and I reflected on that a lot today and thought I’d share my “why”.

I’m not your traditional yoga teacher, even though I went through a traditional yoga teacher training in Bali. I don’t teach ✨ spiritual ✨ yoga (no disrespect to those that do). I focus on MOVEMENT & BREATH - a powerful combo.

I fell in love with yoga ~8 years ago because of the way it made me FEEL. The way I learned to work *with* my breath - learning to tap into that for both strength and calm. I learned to embrace stillness, and reallyyy pay attention and that slowly trickled into my everyday life.

When I did normal mundane things like drive my car, I was calmer, more at ease… when I was having conversations, with people, I was truly present and listening. The chronic back pain that I had dealt with for years slowly began to dissipate. My posture and my body started to change. That’s what kept me coming back to my mat.

〰️ GET OUT OF THE HEAD AND INTO THE BODY 〰️- is my motto.

Never in a million years did I EVER think I would teach yoga. Since I was a child, I had a MAJOR fear of public speaking, even as an adult. I am so incredibly grateful for my very first yoga teacher, Sandy, who encouraged me to teach. I faced and overcame a huge fear of mine that allowed me to truly embrace my voice.

Some people will be drawn to my style of teaching, and others not so much and that’s okay. There is space for all of us regardless. 🙏🏻

My goal is to serve those who are looking for a teacher like me, to help you build strength and confidence, improve balance, flexibility and range of motion, to help you S L O W down and tap into your body’s ability to restore itself.

I have some exciting new things in the works. Stay tuned. 💖

Some people cringe at the thought of New Year's resolutions but I *personally* find a newfound sense of inspiration around this time of year to reflect and set goals for the new year.

If getting fit and healthy in 2023 is your goal, I’m here for it! 🙌🏻

There is NO SHAME in setting a goal to lose weight this year, no shame in wanting to clean up your diet, and no shame in wanting to put your health first.

Here are some things that are worth leaving behind in 2022 to set you up for your healthiest year ever. ✨

❌ STARVATION DIETS ❌
If you want to lose weight, eating salads all day, skipping meals or eating 1,200 calories IS NOT IT. 🙅🏻‍♀️ Be mindful of fad diets and “challenges” that will call for your attention around this time that only further perpetuate disordered eating habits. The goal should be to eat in a way that is SUSTAINABLE while NOURISHING you year round, not just 21 days.

❌ PUNISHING YOURSELF WITH EXERCISE ❌
You don’t "need" to run an extra mile or push yourself to workout for another hour just because you ate the ice cream. Commit to a healthy eating plan and movement/exercise regime and stick with it regardless. Once you learn that ingredients and quality matter, you’ll want to eat less junk and find healthier alternatives.

❌ TOXIC SKIN & BODY CARE PRODUCTS ❌
Your skin absorbs EVERYTHING you put on it - so yes this matters. Most skin and body care products - including cosmetics, are toxic containing ingredients that are known carcinogens, heavy metals, and chemicals that contribute to major imbalances in the body.

❌ SLEEP DEPRIVATION ❌
Parents and those with irregular work schedules - I HEAR YOU! 📣 I realize that having a daily set sleeping schedule is a luxury. As always, do the best you can within your circumstance. Ideally, adults should aim for ~7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night. 😴 💤

I’ve always loved learning about different natural health modalities and often find bits and pieces of information that overlap with what I’ve learned about health and over the years.

I never formally studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, but was introduced to the philosophy by my mom who has been incorporating Chinese medicine with her clients for over 10+ years.

Remember that symptoms are not root causes but are simply a piece of the puzzle that point back to foundational imbalances.

Organ systems don’t work independently, rather they are a complex system that work together to create or equilibrium in the body.

Aside from addressing nutrient/mineral deficiencies and focusing on a nutrient dense whole foods diet, a few tips to support the liver are:

-MOVE your body = move stagnant energy 🏃🏻‍♀️

-Get enough SLEEP, ideally ~7-9 hours a night (the body detoxes while we sleep!) 😴

-Limit exposure to TOXINS - easier said than done, I know (alcohol, drugs, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, etc.) ⚠️

-Manage STRESS (it directly impacts the organ systems) 🧘🏻‍♀️

-Avoid large meals at least ~2-3 hours before going to bed 🥘

-Limit EXCESSIVE dietary fats (the more fat we consume, the harder the liver has to work) 🧈

Improving liver health doesn’t happen overnight, but when you are committed to your health and longevity, the choice to start making changes right away should be a no brainer 😉

Which of the liver symptoms shocked you the most?

Photos from Sasha Roxanne Wellness's post 08/23/2022

As part of my training I learned about the magical and its detox processes, but it wasn’t till after when I came across the work of Naturopathic Doctor Garrett Smith and his expertise on all things related to the liver, that I realized it’s true importance.

Specifically it being the missing puzzle piece and the cause as to why SO many people are suffering with subpar health and chronic illness.

The more I learn about it, the more I realize how overlooked it can be and how *critical* it is that we care for it, ESPECIALLY In our increasingly world. 🌎

The liver acts as a “gateway to the body” and its systems can become easily overloaded.

The liver has over 500 functions AND has the incredible capacity to regenerate itself after sustaining damage.

WOW - mind blowing. 🤯

In case it’s not apparent, your liver does a lot and is working 24/7, 365 days a year to keep things in . BUT it cannot run on thin air. It requires energy, which requires nutrients to perform optimally.

If we want to and truly live your healthiest BEST life, addressing the liver FIRST is crucial - in combination with assessing diet and lifestyle of course.

Otherwise, on your search for answers for healing, you’ll find yourself running around in circles.

*If your goal is to:

- Lose weight and maintain it
- Address imbalances and issues
- Say goodbye to , and skin problems
- Heal your digestive system
- Support your blood sugar
- Improve your energy and sleep
- Manage and even prevent conditions and certain cancers

THEN…. The first step on your health journey should be to address your liver health.

How? By giving it the nutrients it requires to enhance its detox functions and by reducing the toxicity load and exposure.

If you’re looking for support in any of these areas, send a DM to see how I can help or for more info about my Nutritional Therapy services.

When it comes to improving our health or reaching a health goal, we expect results to happen quickly. In a world full of instant gratification, it makes sense why we might feel inclined to this mindset. The reality is, there is no such thing as a quick fix. 🙅🏻‍♀️

I believe in taking a holistic approach to healing, *not* the masking of symptoms using pharmaceutical drugs - which only perpetuates disease.

〰️ HEALING TAKES TIME 〰️

There’s no sugar coating it, it’s hard work… until those new habits become your new way of life.

The first step in deciding that you want to take control of your health is empowering in itself. 🙌🏻

As you begin your journey and do the work, you’ll notice small progress that will spark the fire within you. 🔥

You might even take a few steps back, before you realize it’s time to move forward again. We’re human and setbacks will happen.

The real magic happens when you continue to do the work. Showing up for yourself day after day, even when everything inside of you is telling you to fall back into old habits.

You’ll be faced with making sacrifices and better choices that will sustain the life and health you are aiming for.

Ask yourself, are YOU worth it? 💭

This is such an important reminder. Do not be discouraged when things do not move as quickly as anticipated. Continue to show up for yourself and put in the effort. I assure you that with time, patience and constancy, it gets easier.

Share this with someone who might benefit from this message ✨

Happy Healing 🤍

It might not always be common knowledge that diet and lifestyle is directly related to the health of our skin.

When skin issues arise, conventional medicine may not always take this into account and “treatment” often results in prescribing a pill, a shot, a steroid cream, etc.

Will this “fix” the issue? Simply put, NO. 🚫

‼️Remember skin issues are SYMPTOMS, not a cause.‼️

Taking a holistic approach to skin health means looking at ALL contributing factors (diet, lifestyle, stress, etc.) and addressing the root cause(s).

Having professional support and guidance made all the difference for me on my healing journey. If you feel like you’ve tried it all, or are tired of band aid approaches, then know that there is another way.

It might not be the easy way, and it will take effort on your part. Practitioners cannot wave a magic wand for you, but we give you the tools, support and guidance to take the necessary steps and take control of your health.

Living a healthy life that supports the body is not a temporary quick fix. It must become your way of life if you want to maintain *long lasting* health - and good skin is just a plus. 😉

If you are dealing with a particular skin issue and would like one on one support, or have any questions about my services, shoot me a DM and we can chat.

Skin health is something I’ve struggled with since I was a teen (what a wild rollarcoaster it’s been). My old belief was that having good skin was only affected by what I put ON my skin. Now I know that healthy skin starts from within and is directly related to the health of the body as a whole.

Think of the skin as a reflection of what is happening INSIDE the body. 🪞

Our body communicates to us when something within is out of balance in the form of signs and symptoms. These signs can show up on the skin in many ways, such as recurring breakouts or rashes. Sometimes it can manifest into a more severe skin condition. Some common (but NOT normal) ones include:

❌Acne
❌Eczema
❌Rosacea
❌Dermatitis (perioral, etc.)
❌Hives/rashes
❌Psoriasis

It’s important to look at the health of the skin from an inside perspective and although personal skin/body care products DO matter, there are other aspects to consider:

▫️Diet
▫️Digestion
▫️Hormonal imbalances
▫️Fungal/parasitic infections
▫️Overburdened liver
▫️Blood sugar dysregulation
▫️Stress
▫️Allergies/food sensitivities
▫️Environmental toxins

There is no one magic thing that can make our skin problems go away for good. Topicals, pharmaceutical drugs, birth control, etc. *may* help short term, but the underlying imbalance will still be present, meaning the skin issue will return once you stop using it. Looking at skin health in a holistic way means getting to the root cause of the imbalance and addressing it one step at a time.

The goal when working to improve the health of our skin (and the body) should not be perfection, but sustainable progress to keep our skin and health optimal long term. In nutritional therapy, we focus on balancing the foundations (liver health is HUGE), pin pointing potential triggers and addressing stress and outside factors.

This topic hits close to home for me because of my own experience with perioral dermatitis which I’ll discuss soon. But this message is for anyone who feels like they have tried everything under the sun with little to no success….there is hope. 🌸

Hiiiii, it’s been a while. 🙋🏻‍♀️

Thought I’d share a few fun facts about me.

🦋 Growing up, I always knew I wanted to help people. Library trips as a kid consisted of stacks of books about the human body. I wanted to become a doctor, then that shifted to a pediatrician and later a registered dietician as I became more focused on nutrition. Ultimately, that all lead me down the path to becoming a holistic nutritionist which aligns perfectly with my beliefs about health.

🦋 I’ve been pretty flexible my whole life. I was the weird kid putting their legs behind their head 😂 When I started practicing yoga almost 8 years ago, many of the postures came (somewhat) naturally for me. I now get to share one of my passions with others and teach them how to work *with* their bodies, how to open up, and explore what they once thought was impossible. I’ve witnessed some pretty amazing progress and transformations in my students and that feels pretty darn good.

🦋 I’ve tried a plethora of fad diets in my life, from low carb, vegetarian, vegan, vegan-keto (is that a thing?), intermittent fasting, OMAD (one meal a day). This only fed into my disordered eating habits and food fear. I was literally on the hunt for the “perfect diet” that would make me skinny and healthy. Now I get to teach people that there is NO one size fits all diet and health definitely does not come from a fad diet. Eating a BALANCED nutrient dense diet is key to overall health and wellness.

I’ve got some new things in the works, learning from one of the bests on liver health, and adding some testing services which I’m so stoked for - more on that soon. Aside from that, I joined a personal development course that has been eye opening to say the least, AND I’m starting a business course in just a couple weeks 😅

I’ve got a full plate but I’m here for it ✨

Digestion is something we’ve ALL struggled with at one point, and for some it’s an ongoing daily struggle. There are many factors that contribute to digestive dysfunction and working to bring the system back to balance is specific to each person's needs.

However there are some things we can all practice to better our digestion and in turn, our health. Proper digestion is crucial because how well we absorb and assimilate what we eat is how well we obtain the fuel/nutrients we need to thrive. These helpful tips cost nothing and be be implemented at your next meal! 😋

🔅EAT IN A RELAXED STATE: Did you know that digestion is a process? This means optimal digestion occurs when the body is in a relaxed state. On the contrary, eating while stressed, rushed, angry, sad, etc. impairs the body’s natural processes. Whether we realize it or not, many of us are going about our day to day in a stressed state and it may be impacting our health. It’s important to S L O W down, especially before meals. Take a few deep breaths before eating to signal to your body that you are safe. Giving thanks, or saying grace before meals is another way to bring yourself into a calm state. 🙏🏻

🔅CHEW FOOD THOROUGHLY: You’d think this would be a given but many of us are simply not chewing enough. (Fast eaters, I’m looking at you lol) Our saliva contains enzymes that begin the break down of foods, so if we’re not chewing enough, saliva isn’t being created to assist in this process. My rule of thumb is to chew each bite until there are no solid chunks, basically until the food is liquified. You can also chew softer foods like yogurt, smoothies, etc. to stimulate the digestive juices. 💦

🔅CONSUME FOODS SLOWLY & MINDFULLY: This ties back to #1 & #2 and the “rest and digest” process. Everything nowadays is on-the-go and multitasking has become an art form. We’ve lost touch with the simple task of eating a meal in peace. Try to avoid screens and distractions while eating. If you are enjoying a meal with others, be there *fully* (aka PUT DOWN YOUR PHONE). Even when there are a million things on your to-do list, make it a priority to slow down and nourish yourself. ✨

Meditation can look like a lot of different things. Some people might believe that the only way to meditate is to sit cross legged, with the eyes closed, focusing on their breathing, maybe even listening to some nature sounds or a guided meditation.

While this IS one form of meditation (which has some pretty amazing benefits when practiced consistently) it can also look like a lot of other things too. Different practices, same concept.

Some of the many benefits of meditation may include:

✨ Stress management
✨ Emotional health & wellbeing
✨ Increase focus & concentration
✨ Improved self awareness
✨ Increase creativity
✨ Enhance empathy, kindness, & compassion

Any practice or activity that requires mental focus and clarity as well as body and breath awareness can be considered a meditation practice.

It can look like a hike through the mountains on an early morning while being mindful of your surroundings, your body and your breath, all while catching a beautiful sunrise. Now that is truly medicine for the soul. 🌄

❕Remember that health extends far beyond just the food that is on your plate. ❕

What’s your favorite way of meditating?

06/07/2022

I wish someone would have told my younger self this. Especially when I was trying so hard to reach a *very* specific weight loss goal. Come to think of it, I don’t know why I was so stuck on this particular number, but I was doing everything to get there.

I once hired a personal trainer who put me on a 1,200 calorie diet (as a vegan - LOL), and now I can’t help but laugh at how crazy that is. No wonder I was SO tired and felt like sh*t all the time. Don’t get me wrong, I know that in order to lose weight, you need to be in a calorie deficit, but at what expense? My health?

I used to track my calories daily, and I meticulously weighed my food. I was eating salads and all the “healthy” foods even though I really just wanted a satisfying meal. I wasn’t listening to my body. I was set on reaching my weight goal, and nothing else really mattered.

Being fit and strong is obviously a good thing. We should all strive to be physically healthy, but there are ways to do this sustainably. It’s important to honor our unique body’s needs and pay attention to what it’s telling you.

When I work with clients who have weight loss goals, I do not focus on this particularly. When we give the body the proper nutrients and bring the systems back in balance (digestion, blood sugar regulation, etc.) weight loss happens NATURALLY - with some added movement of course.

I look at health SO differently now and I realize it’s more than just hitting that number on the scale. I measure my health and wellbeing in other ways.

Some❔to ask yourself:

◽️Do you fall asleep easily and stay asleep throughout the night?
◽️How are your energy levels upon waking and throughout the day?
◽️Do you rely on caffeine for energy?
◽️How well do you manage stress?
◽️How is your digestion?
◽️How is your skin health?
◽️Do you have an adequate libido?
◽️Women, how is your menstrual cycle?
◽️Are you often sick? (infections, allergies, etc.)

These things won’t be perfect all the time, but we can work to improve these functions. Health isn’t an end point. It’s a lifelong process of maintaining healthy habits and listening to our body when it gives us signs that it needs a little extra love and attention 🤍

06/06/2022

I know what you’re thinking, “What the heck is a NTP?” 🤔

Well, let me clarify. Nutritional therapy practitioners take a science based holistic approach to nutrition and wellness. We believe that true health can be achieved through a nutrient dense diet, *proper* supplementation (as needed), stress and sleep management, mindful movement, as well as being aware of our emotional wellbeing and environmental influences. Our bodies have the amazing ability to reach optimal health when provided with the right nutrients and environment to do so.

NTP’s focus on the idea that every one is unique and requires individual needs depending on their current health situation.

With SO much nutrition information and advice out there, I know how overwhelming it can be to try and find the “best diet” that will help you to not only feel good, but look good too. Well, it’s with much relief that I tell you that there is NO one size fits all diet. What might work for one person, might not necessarily work for the other and vice versa.

As NTP’s we are able to analyze for deficiencies and address symptoms of dysfunction occurring in the body and trace it back to a foundational system to restore balance and function.

We are not looking to give band aid fixes, instead we are looking for the WHY.

“WHY is this person experiencing X, Y and Z?”

And from there, getting to the ROOT of the imbalance and addressing it.

NTP’s do not judge or shame you for your previous or current health choices. We do not create unrealistic recommendations, on the contrary we set you up for success by meeting you where you are at on your health journey. NTP’s do not diagnose or treat diseases but we work WITH you to give you the tools, information and support to help you restore health naturally.

I am constantly so amazed at how much work our bodies do for us day in and day out, just to keep us going. So show yourself a little appreciation today, and hopefully every day after that. 😉 ✨
