I was honored to have photographed a Mien wedding.

Mien embroidery is done by woman and learned at an early age. Dyed dark blue and the silver is hand sewn and threaded creating many designs like crosses, weaves, grids, and stem stitch that require hours of needlework! These designs reflect the village life of the Mien, referring to plant + animal names and other references pertaining to Thailand & Laos. Other special garments used are appliqué, pom-poms, tassels, good luck charms, silk tunics, and skirts.

Growing up, I’d often see my mom stitching away and wearing the most beautiful pieces. This tradition holds a very special place in my heart ❤️
