Keeping it simple. A clean 2”+ slab getting the treatment it deserves.
Give the wood every chance you can to survive. The hope & reality is that each is a true 1 of 1.
You never know what is going to happen. At every step it seems the wood is saying what to do. Wood doesn’t care about your aspirations.
Insane art form to make a bond with. You constantly don’t know anything, regardless of what you know. Being curious with some understanding goes a long ways.

Had the pleasure of sourcing some wood from a Northern California family. Their mill dates back to 1897! The machinery you see is over a hundred years old. This operation feels like you have stepped into the oldest western you ever watched. Absolutely gorgeous part of American history.

Almost done with this Buck mount.
Beautiful piece of very old walnut.
She came to us in a weathered and grey condition beat up by exposure. After careful consideration we kept all the character that the world had thrown at her with exception to the mounting face. She got a restoring oil finish (more than once) till she was looking even and then gave a LOT of drying time. She got a bunch of sanding to a smoother than model’s skin amount of love. Then one more oil treatment. The last step is a nice finish coat to preserve the face. Thank you Travis for choosing us to restore and preserve this gorgeous piece of your hunting life!
Last buff before she goes to her owner tomorrow. Rebecca thank you so much for choosing us.

Monkypod wood with a medium to light blue waterway.
We are shooting for a 29”x24” finished product.
This species has rich contrasting color as well as tons of character in the grain.
This is currently 38.5”x38” to be trimmed down to 37.5”x37.5” as a small table top.

New project!
Monkeypod is toxic dust and you should always wear a mask sanding. The look is phenomenal among species we have handled. Such an active grain with fantastic clarity. This is not sanded and it is dirty.
