Three months ago I got a life partner. A life long friend and companion.

I couldn’t have asked for more. It is exactly what I wanted - someone to traverse life through in the bad and good, through the internal and external pains - through all of it.

She is precious. She is mine.

ON COMFORT

I wrote this piece two weeks after a tragedy fell upon my family. We would never be the same. Trust was destroyed, pain abounded, and hope felt like it was lost. It was one of the worst things to happen to me in my life.

Comfort, how I longed for you to be a remover, but you are not.
Comfort is not escape—but an embrace.

How are you comforter, oh God, if those around me abandon me? If I grasp for food, clutch at water, or watch my family burn down around me?
Do I curse you and call you a liar?

It's tempting. But the things that have successfully comforted my soul always establish something deeper than momentary respite—they give me hope, establish peace, and set my eyes on something eternal. The nature of this kind of comfort is contrary to simple pleasures that distract.

Genuine comfort acknowledges all things; yet, it hopes.

Why would you call Christ a rock if we never stand on Him? The storm still comes to the man with a house built upon Christ, but his house remains, because his house is set on something eternal.

Honestly, this pi**es me off sometimes. I want my heart to be silent, my emotions to no longer sting. To become void and hollow—to take up a piece of cake, p**n, ice cream, movie, or friend to distract and become detached from life— to escape.

Oh heart, what is comfort? I hoped it would be an absence from pain, but it is not! It is the infilling of love where pain purveys. The darkness is not fought by closing the door, but by turning on the light—flooding every crevice with illumination, and amidst all pain, having wounds tended.

Hidden wounds don't heal.
Only a weeping heart may be comforted.

The tap of a friend, the whisper of a lover, the presence in despair, the eyes of compassion, the redemption through Christ, the smile of the Father, the promise of pleasures evermore, the freedom to scream and weep, the opening of souls to God and God's eternal entering—the God that cries delight over us, if we would receive it. These are comforts.

It begins with light upon broken hearts. No healing comes to hidden, infected wounds.....

I thought this while i was having a vision. My hands were at my chest, ready to tear myself apart and find something disgusting - a reason for me to be rejected - but then, I remembered the last time I had hated myself and how it profited me nothing... I went to the bottom of myself and found nothing more to hate, and in that moment, I could see I was still loved - but I had to accept it. I had to accept it....
I had to accept it.

Terrifying, but worth it. Hatred profited me nothing, and love provided me safety - not out of perfection, but in grace.
